A projectile is described which consists of a contact head and a screen material canister which may be made of aluminum, attached thereto by bolts and, optionally closed with a cover. Contact rings are arranged on an outer casing of the contact head and are connected via firing leads to a primer capsule which is located in the contact head in a centrally disposed box-shaped charge chamber having a substantially gas-tight screw cover at its base and substantially gas-tight ports for the firing leads, the ports being sealed with a sealing agent. A delayed action fuse assembly is arranged in the head section of the contact head or in the base of the screen material canister and connects the charge chamber and the canister, the assembly being in communication with the canister either through an igniter-destructor unit having a charge for igniting the screen material and fragmenting a casing of the canister, or through an expelling charge chamber containing an expelling charge for expulsion of the screen material at rupture of the cover on the head of the canister. The screw cover is formed at its edge with a screw thread and is formed at least in its central region with an abutment for a spacer of a cup discharger, the parts of the cover between the edge and the abutment being formed with weakened areas for the escape of propellent gases. The screen material may consist of thin combustible lamellae which may comprise a carrier material carrying a slow-burning combustion layer.

This invention comprises a process for the preparation of a smoke composition based on hexachloroethane, zinc oxide, and metal powder, in which zinc oxide granules obtained by high compression and subsequent crushing are used as a mixture component and the intermittent burnoff of previous smoke compositions of this type is thus avoided; the invention also concerns a smoke generator filled with such a smoke composition.

Process for the preparation of a smoke composition

The invention concerns a practice war head device for an artillery rocket, comprising a frusto-conical head element having a hollow nose section and a hollow skirt section, an impact detonator mounted in said nose section, a tubular jacket connected to the skirt section, a tubular dividing element concentric with the tubular jacket together defining an annular volume, a fog producing substance based on a carbon halogen or halogen carbohydrate substance and reactive metal or metal oxide powders in said annular volume, and an ignition core of a quick-reacting ignition substance capable of high gas formation in the tubular dividing element, which is characterized in that the fog producing substance is loosely packed in the annular volume, that closure elements closing off said annular volume are provided at the nose side and base side of the annular packing, that at least the nose side closure element is displaceable towards the fog producing substance packing and that the connection between the skirt section of the head element and the tubular jacket, the connection between the central portion of the head element and the tubular dividing element, and the base of the skirt section, are constructed so that upon impact of the war head device, the base of the skirt section will be displaced into the annular volume to thereby compress the fog producing substance.
