There is described a method for processing bundles () of securities, in particular banknote bundles, during production thereof, the method comprising the steps of (a) processing stacks of sheets (SS), each carrying an array of multiple security prints arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, into successive sets () of consecutive bundles () of securities arranged side-by-side, (b) forming at least one intermediate pile () of consecutive bundles () by placing the consecutive bundles () of a set () one on top of the other, and (c) successively ejecting bundles () one-by-one from a bottom of the said at least one intermediate pile () and conveying each ejected bundle () with a determined spacing from a preceding and/or following ejected bundle (). There is also described a bundle processing system to carry out the above method.

Method and system for processing bundles of securities, in particular banknote bundles

The process for treating stacks formed of a predetermined number of planar substrates, such as securities, banknotes, checks and other similar documents, said securities being formed by prints on said substrates arranged in matrix-form in lines and columns, comprises the steps of (a) displacing the stack under a cutting device; (b) cutting a strip of the stack with cutting means; (c) evacuating the cut strip for liberating the front side of the stack which is under the cutting means; (d) taking an image of the front side of the stack; (e) counting the number of substrate in the stack by analyzing the image taken; (f) resuming the process at step (a) until all strips of a stack have been cut and starting with another stack.

Counting stacked documents

There is described a method for processing stacks () of sheets of securities, especially banknotes, into bundles () and bundle packs (), said sheets each having an array of security prints printed thereon which array comprises M columns and N rows. According to this method, each stack () of sheets is processed into M successive bundle groups () of N individual bundles () each and these M successive bundle groups () are stored in M separate storage areas (), which storage areas () are vertically superposed, whereby each one of the M successive bundle groups () is stored in a predetermined one of the M separate storage areas (). Subsequent stacks () of sheets are processed, whereby each one of the M successive bundle groups () processed from said subsequent stacks () of sheets is piled in the same predetermined one of said M separate storage areas () as the first stack () of sheets. When K stacks () of sheets have been processed, each storage area () contains a complete set () of N bundle packs () of K bundles () each. There is also described a bundle collating system () for collecting the bundles () processed according to the above collating method.

Processing of stacks of sheets of securities into bundles and packs of bundles

There is described a process for numbering substrates having security prints printed thereon, each of the substrates comprising a plurality of security prints which are arranged in k columns and n rows on the substrate, wherein product k*n is an integer multiple of ten or of twenty-five. The process comprises the step of numbering successive runs of 10substrates each, by providing each of the security prints with a serial number Serial#, the serial number Serial# being calculated with the formula: Serial#=Start#+&#x3b1;*[(r&#x2212;1)*k*n*10+((i&#x2212;1)*n+(j&#x2212;1))*10+MOD(s&#x2212;1; 10)], where Start# is a starting number from which numbering starts, &#x3b1; is equal to &#x2212;1 or +1 depending on whether numbering is carried out downwards or, respectively upwards, r identifies the run of 10N successive substrates, i and j respectively identify the column and the row on the substrate where the security print to be numbered is located, s is a number which identifies the substrate onto which the security print to be numbered is located and MOD(x; y) designates the so-called modulus function which returns the integer remainder of the division of y by x. Digits N+2 and N+1 of the serial number Serial# are produced by sequential actuation of a double numbering wheel () bearing a predetermined sequence of digit pairs for digits N+2 and N+1. Also described are numbering boxes to carry out the numbering process.

A banding system for piled products with a machine frame, a band feed mechanism disposed on the machine frame for feeding band material from a supply roll, means for forming a loop with said band material around the products to be banded, welding means to close said loop, and cutting means for cutting said band material, said means for forming the loop comprising transporting means for transporting the band material around the product to be banded and vacuum means connected to the transporting means. Said means for forming the loop are movable with respect to machine frame between an operating position where the means for forming the loop are in contact with the band feed mechanism to perform the banding operation and an open position where the means for forming the loop are displaced away from the band feed mechanism to create an opening therebetween allowing a transfer of products to be banded between the band feed mechanism and the means for forming the loop.

A banding system for piled products with a machine frame (), a band feed mechanism () disposed on the machine frame for feeding band material () from a supply roll (), means for forming a loop () with said band material () around the products to be banded, welding means () to close said loop, and cutting means () for cutting said band material, said means for forming the loop comprising transporting means () for transporting the band material () around the product to be banded and vacuum means () connected to the transporting means. Said means for forming the loop () are movable with respect to machine frame () between an operating position where the means for forming the loop () are in contact with the band feed mechanism () to perform the banding operation and an open position where the means for forming the loop () are displaced away from the band feed mechanism () to create an opening therebetween allowing a transfer of products to be banded between the band feed mechanism () and the means for forming the loop ().

The invention relates to a device and a method for aligning at least the front edge of several sheets arranged in a stack, one above the other, whilst maintaining the order of the sheets. Said device comprises a stacking table, one side of which is provided with a front edge stop for aligning the front edge of the sheets. A supporting platform, upon which a stack of sheets can be placed with non-aligned front edges, is arranged upstream of the stacking table. The device is provided with a sheet feeder, which removes the sheets from the supporting platform by placing them in an overlapping stream with the front edges placed under the preceding sheets. A turning device is provided downstream of the sheet feeder, said device turning the overlapping stream in such a way that the front edge area of each sheet is freely accessible. Downstream of the turning device, the invention is provided with a conveyer device, by means of which the sheets are conveyed, forming a new stack, to the front edge stop of the stacking table, where their front edges can be aligned.

Device and method for aligning a stack of sheets arranged one above the other

The invention relates to an intermediate storage device for objects () to be transported. Said device comprises a plurality of carriers () which circulate on a closed strip and are used for the objects (), e.g. printed products; an introducing device () arranged on a first point of the strip, and used to introduce the printed products () into the carriers () passing said point; a distribution device () arranged on a second point of the strip, and used to distribute the printed products () carried by the carriers () passing said second point; and a removal device () for removing printed products () from a carrier () in an area of the strip which is displaced between the first and the second point, said area comprising a section () which is oriented in a first direction and a section () which is oriented in a second direction opposite the first.

Intermediate storage device and process for transporting objects

Faulty useful units printed on a sheet of useful units are separated from the acceptable useful units. A first cutting device cuts the sheet into a plurality of longitudinal strips, each of which contains several of the useful units. A quality control device detects the faulty useful units prior to a second cutting device that cuts the strips into individual units. A filtering unit is placed between the two cutting units and filters out strips with one or more faulty units. Strips with no faulty units replace the filtered out faulty unit strips. This simplifies further processing of the strips.

Device for separating useful units of a printed sheet

A stack of sheet-type objects are bundled while supported on a support plate. A banding strip is guided in a channel formed in the plate. The support plate can be pushed through a shaft that is formed by a pair of spaced sidewalls. A tongue is displaceable between an extended position, in which it separates the channel from the surface of the supporting plate, and a withdrawn position in which the channel is placed in an open position with respect to the surface of the supporting plate. A spring is used to hold the banding strip in contact with an underside of the stack of sheet-type objects.

Sheets carrying imprinted materials are counted using a rotating counting disk that carries at least a receiver connected to a sensor. During counting of the sheets, a location of the imprinted materials on the sheets can also be determined.

Sheets or strips of printed materials, with each sheet or strip having a printed image including plural individual copies, are inspected. Each copy is inspected by an inspection device. The sheets or strips of printed materials are separated into individual ones of the copies. Defective copies are sorted out based on the results of the inspection device.

The endless band is provided with print marks (D) at equal distances, this distance (r) corresponding to the circumference of the largest pack goods item (P) to be banded, plus an overlap. A strip-shaped glue coat (L) for closing the band loops (5a) is applied transversely to the longitudinal direction of the band at a constant predetermined distance (s) in front of each print mark (D). During banding, after the looping of the pack goods (P) the band movement is stopped when a print mark (D) is read by a print mark reader. At standstill, a glue coat (L) is located directly at the closing mechanism. While the free band end is retained, the endless band is retracted until the band loop (5a) surrounds the pack goods (P) with a specific tension. The closing of the band loop and the severance of the latter then take place. When the circumference of a pack goods item is smaller than that of the largest pack goods item, the excess length (2x) remaining in front of the following glue coat (L) after the band loop has been severed is also banded in as an inner overlap (2x) during the banding of the following pack goods item.

Production of an endless band and method and banding apparatus for

On the conveyor track (1) on which the objects (2a, 2b) to be turned are moved at an equal distance apart by slides (3a, 3b), there is provided along a turning zone an advancement mechanism having an advancement member in the form of a spring bar (5), which is periodically moved, at an accelerated speed relative to the speed of conveyance, forward out of an initial position into an end position and back again into the initial position. The spring bar (5) disposed over the conveyor track (1) has a bent section (5b) which reaches down to the conveyor track and the concave side of which points in the direction of conveyance. Between the two aforementioned positions of the spring bar (5), there are fastened on the conveyor track (1) two stops (6) which are aligned in the transverse direction and the height of which is less than the height of the object and the side of which pointing oppositely to the direction of conveyance exhibits in its upper region an inclined face (6a). Thee arrangement is made such that an object (2b) isunder-gripped at its rear edge by the end (5c) of the bent spring section (5b), pushed forward at an accelerated speed against the stops (6), then raised up at the rear and, guided within the bent spring section, tilted forwards over the stop and deposited, turned under the influence of the spring force of the spring bar, on the conveyor track, whereupon it is taken up again by the original slides (3a).

Apparatus for turning flat objects

A thrusting mechanism with a thrusting member (5) which is moved periodically with an acceleration relative to the conveying speed out of a starting position into an end position and back into the starting position by a drive arrangement is provided on the conveying track (1) along a turning zone. Installed downstream of the starting position are an upward-curved ramp (8) and, at a distance downstream of the latter, a further upward-curved guide track (9) for the objects (2a, 2b, 2c) arriving on the conveying track (1) and moved by pushers (3). The whole arrangement is such that an object can be taken over in the turning zone by the thrusting member (5) and pushed upwards with an acceleration on the ramp (8) and the guide track (9) until it tilts backwards beyond its upright position and, after the return motion of the thrusting member (5) out of its end position, falls back turned onto the conveying track (1).
