A compressor for a supercharging device of an internal combustion engine and a supercharging device are described. The compressor has an iris diaphragm mechanism that has a special drive. The drive includes an adjusting ring as an integral constituent part of an actuator of the drive and is formed as a rotor, which surrounds an air supply channel, of an electric motor. This results in a significantly simplified structural form of the drive.

A turbocharger has a rotor housing. Said rotor housing has an insertion element. Said insertion element is configured such that the same forms an over-hanging spiral together with said rotor housing.

An axial bearing for a turbocharger contains a through hole for a shaft and at least one at least partially or completely circulating segment section on a first and second side of the axial bearing. At least one bearing surface is disposed in the segment section. At least one oil pocket is on the first side of the axial bearing. The oil pocket is connected to at least one recess opening outwards, the recess being configured such that it connects the oil pocket for oil supply purposes to the respective segment section and the bearing surface(s) thereof on the first and second side of the axial bearing.

The present invention provides a two-stage turbocharger unit having a valve that will help to create a smooth transition of exhaust gas energy from the high-pressure turbine (HP) turbine to the low-pressure (LP) turbine. The LP and HP turbines are positioned such that the valve can be in one position to force all of the exhaust gas to flow through the HP turbine and when in another position to force all of the exhaust gas through the LP turbine. When the valve is placed in an intermediate position, the exhaust gas can be variably directed to flow through both turbines, with the percentage of exhaust gas flowing through each turbine being dependent on the position of the valve.

A housing for a turbocharger comprises a housing shell which surrounds, at least partially, a rotor space, at least one manifold of a combustion engine, a pipe for connecting the housing shell with at least one manifold of the combustion engine, and a cylinder head of said combustion engine. All these parts are integrally cast as one single piece. This may be effected by a method which comprises the steps of: joining and bonding sand cores for part of a housing shell of the turbocharger with sand cores for shaping the cavities of the manifold, and these, in turn, with sand cores for shaping the cylinder head. Subsequently, inserting said joint and bonded sand cores into respective firmly interconnected molds for molding said part of a housing shell of said turbocharger, for said manifold and said cylinder head, and filling molten metal into said molds and allowing solidification of said metal. After that, the integrally cast single piece of part of the housing shell of the turbocharger together with the manifold and the cylinder head is released and the cores are removed.

A spiral casing for a turbine of a turbocharger is made from thin (0,2 to 2 mm thick) sheet metal. The spiral casing can be made from two matching parts and can be insulated.
