A process for determining 3-D data of at least one prepared jaw area, such as a prepared tooth stump, by mechanically scanning the jaw area and digitizing the measured values determined during the scanning. The jaw area is prepared with a dental instrument having positions which are optically measured during the preparation, and the 3-D data is determined from the positions of the dental instrument that are associated with the prepared jaw area.

Method for determining 3-D data from at least one prepared maxillary area

The invention relates to a method for three-dimensional shape measurement of a body or of a part thereof, in particular of a dental object such as a model, by scanning non-contact distance measurement using an optical sensor device comprising a beam source, where the shape of the body subjects reproducing areas to a beam at various incidence angles (impinging beam), and the reflected beam (measuring beam) is measured, with the body being adjusted relative to the optical sensor device. To permit measurement with high precision of the body and undercuts thereof, without tilting being necessary, it is proposed that for shape measurement of the respectively measured area the beam (measuring beam) reflected therefrom, which describes an angle &#x3b1; to a surface normal corresponding to the respective area, is taken into account, said angle being equal to or smaller than a predefined critical angle &#x3b1;relative to the surface normal.

Method for three-dimensional shape measurement of a body

An articulated milling arm for a milling instrument, which includes a milling arm support movably attached to a frame to allow vertical displacement of the milling arm support; a first vertical axle, rotatably connecting the first milling arm support to a middle portion of the milling arm to allow swiveling of the middle portion of the milling arm horizontally about a vertical axis of the first vertical axle, the first vertical axle being provided with a braking surface; a second vertical axle, rotatably connecting the middle portion of the milling arm to a milling unit support to allow swiveling of the milling unit support horizontally about a vertical axis of the second vertical axle, the second vertical axle also being provided with a braking surface. The milling arm is provided with a movable braking plate, on the middle portion of the milling arm, which movably contacts the braking surface of the first vertical axle and the breaking surface of the second vertical axle. The invention further provides that the common braking plate is pressurized pneumatically or hydraulically via a diaphragm which presses against the braking surfaces of the two vertical axles in order to fix the articulated milling arm horizontally.

Articulated milling arm for a dental milling instrument

A dental milling instrument includes a base connected to a guide column for a vertically adjustable milling arm which receives a milling unit. The milling arm can be displaced by its supporting slide along a guideway of the guide column, by means of an electromotive height-adjusting drive. A threaded spindle, capable of being driven by an adjusting motor, is in engagement in a backlash-free and self-locking manner with a spindle nut provided in the supporting slide. Vertical positioning and vertical fixation are accomplished entirely from an operating panel provided on the base.
