A single step routing and wavelength assignment method and system for automated provisioning of services on DWDM networks is presented. This novel single step solution automates design and assignment of services in DWDM networks. For an automated provisioning platform that can handle the routing and wavelength assignment in a single step, the solution avoids reconfiguration of existing services. It also takes into consideration practical aspects of DWDM transponder availability at termination sites and regeneration sites along the selected route. The methodology includes iterative computation of common channel sets to avoid multiple shortest path computations for each of the wavelengths.

System and method for automated provisioning of services using single step routing and wavelength assignment algorithm in DWDM networks

A method of tailoring data streams transmitted to networked user devices is disclosed in which environment information associated with each device is stored at an agent located on those devices. This environment information may include information related to the hardware, interface and application capabilities of the particular device. In another embodiment, this environment information is transmitted and stored at an agent at a local network gateway. And in another embodiment, the environment information is then stored at a mirror agent located in a backbone network of a service provider. By referring to this environment information, a service provider can tailor the transmission of data streams, such as multimedia streams, to a device based on the capabilities of the device and the associated network.

Transparent service adaptation in heterogeneous environments

Without using additional probing packets, estimates of the narrow link bandwidth and available bandwidth of a network path are computed based on existing traffic. The network can be of different types such as a wireless battlefield network context or a wired or wireless commercial network environment. 'Fast packets', i.e. those packets which do not experience any queuing delay in the network, are identified. Fast packets are identified to resolve end-to-end packet delay into its constituent components (deterministic, transmission and queuing delays), estimate path utilization and eliminate the uncertainty (false alarms) that causes the prior art method to lose its effectiveness. An estimation algorithm computes end-to-end transmission delay and end-to-end deterministic delay of fast packets traveling along a path in a network. Examples of deterministic delay include satellite propagation delays and clock effects. Then, based on the results of the fast packet identifying algorithm, two logic branches are followed. A first branch calculates utilization and a second branch calculates narrow link bandwidth. The narrow link bandwidth is determined from the packet pair dispersion. The available bandwidth is obtained from the narrow link bandwidth and the utilization. Estimation of available bandwidth for an end-to-end network path allows traffic sources to judiciously regulate the volume of application traffic injected into the network.

Estimating available bandwidth and enhancing narrow link bandwidth estimations in telecommunications networks using existing user traffic

Aspects of the invention pertain to user session management in load balanced clusters. Multiple application servers communicate with a central data server to ensure there is a single session per user ID. The central data server maintains a user session index and a parameter table. Each time a network access is attempted using a given user ID, a load balancer assigns the session to one of the application servers. The assigned application server queries the central data server to determine whether a session status for the user's login ID is inactive or active. If inactive, a new, unique value is assigned as the session number. If active, the session number is evaluated to determine whether multiple sessions exist. In this case, one of the sessions is terminated to ensure a single session per user ID. Preferably, the terminated session is the earlier session.

Systems and methods for single session management in load balanced application server clusters

Applications and users dynamically make QoS provisioning requests for individual traffic flows traversing client and server hosts. A traffic flow provisioning request is conveyed to a services manager, which determines a set of traffic attributes for the flow and determines the networks the flow traverses between the client and server hosts. The services manger then oversees the admission of the flow to appropriate traffic classes in each determined network and the obtaining of a DSCP value for each network. Lastly, the services manger conveys the DSCP value of the first network traversed back to the client or server host, depending on the direction of the flow, which host is then configured to appropriately mark the DSCP field of the traffic flow packets. In a further embodiment, the services manager also instructs the client or server host to perform packet policing and shaping for the flow.

Scalable and dynamic quality of service control

A utility for rapid development of three dimensional representations of electrical distribution switchgear is provided. These switchgear elevations have logical connections to the switchgear devices. An elevation can be modified to any dimensions with an infinite number of combinations and arrangements of meters and protection devices to quickly and accurately represent a customer's switchgear. Also, an event logger utility is provided for viewing, organizing and analyzing unusual behavior in a power system. The event logger utility passes a received message as an un-acknowledgeable or acknowledgeable alarm or as an event based upon the contents of a initialization file. A utility for the waveform capture is provided for viewing and analysis of waveforms (e.g., Fourier, frequency and/or harmonic analysis) captured by sophisticated metering devices. Waveforms from a device may be super-imposed for analysis. Processing of the collected waveform data to display any one of the eight waveform parameters (i.e., I, I, I, I, V, V, V, V) or a combination thereof including an 'all' selection in a window tiling format is provided.
