A method of making thermoformable articles is disclosed. The method includes mixing one or more light-stabilized polymers having a high concentration of light-stabilizing moieties covalently bonded along the polymer chain with one or more additional polymeric materials, which are substantially free from light-stabilizing moieties.

Light-stabilized polymeric articles and methods of making the same

The method includes the following steps: packaging a polymer precursor composition in a sealable container; transferring the polymer precursor composition from the sealable container to a reaction vessel; and polymerizing the polymer precursor composition. Inherently light- and heat-stabilized polyamides with improved wet fastness

A modified polyamide polymer having a high amino end group content, with more than 30 percent of the amino end groups being secondary or tertiary amine, dramatically improves the dye bleed performance. The modified polyamide may be prepared by polymerization of polyamide-forming monomers in the presence of a carboxylic acid and a hindered piperidine derivative in amounts sufficient to achieve the high amino end group content.

The end group content of polyamide in the solid state may be reduced by treating the polyamide with gas-phase acid, anhydride, or amine. Stain- or dye-resistant polyamide fibers can be made by reducing the number of amino end groups. Reduction in the number of carboxylic end groups reduces the rate of regeneration of starting monomers during extrusion.

A process for the manufacture of a stain resistant carpet by melt mixing a fiber forming synthetic polyamide with a compound, being capable to react with an amino group, to form a homogeneous polymer melt into fibers, tufting the fibers into a backing to form a carpet and treating the carpet with polymethacrylic acid, copolymers of polymethacrylic acid, a mixture of polymethacrylic acid and a sulfonated aromatic formaldehyde condensation product, and a reaction product of the polymerization or copolymerization of methacrylic acid in the presence of a sulfonated aromatic formaldehyde condensation product.
