A composition includes polyphenolic particles and a surfactant, on the polyphenolic particles. The composition is lipophilic. The polyphenolic particles are non-pigmentary. A dispersion includes the polyphenolic particles, the surfactant, and a carrier vehicle. The carrier vehicle may be a cosmetically-acceptable fluid or a wax that is lipophilic.

Particulates of polyphenolics and dispersions thereof

Zinc oxide particles are prepared as a dry powder through a vapor phase formed by a plasma process, or by introducing defects into stoichiometric zinc oxide particles in a liquid carrier through mechanical stress. The zinc oxide has an O:Zn ratio of at least 0.99, an average particle size of 10 to 300 nm, and a sufficient concentration of oxygen vacancies and zinc vacancies to give a dispersion of the particles in C12-C15 alkyl benzoate an orange to tan color corresponding to a ΔE value of at least 15 in a Dispersion Color Test. The particles contain no aggregates and have no detectable particles 500 nm or larger, on a number-weighted basis.

A coated powder comprises (a) particles, and (b) a coating on the surface of the particles including (1) silica moieties, (2) organo oxysilane moieties selected from the group consisting of mono-organo oxysilane moieties, bi-organo oxysilane moieties and tri-organo oxysilane moieties, and (3) poly(dialkyl)siloxane moieties. The amount by weight in SiOequivalents of the organo oxysilane moieties and the silica moieties is at least 0.0625% of the total coated powder weight per m/g of the specific surface area of the particle to be coated.

Coated powders having high photostability

A composition comprises phenolic polymer particles and a surfactant, on the phenolic polymer particles. The composition is lipophilic. A dispersion comprises the phenolic polymer particles, the surfactant, and a carrier vehicle. The carrier vehicle may be a cosmetically-acceptable fluid or a wax that is lipophilic.

Method of enhancing the efficacy and stability of ingredients in suspensions

A coated powder comprises (a) particles, and (b) a coating, on the surface of the particles. The surface coating comprises (1) optionally silica moieties, (2) organo oxysilane moieties selected from the group consisting of mono-organo oxysilane moieties, bi-organo oxysilane moieties and tri-organo oxysilane moieties, and (3) optionally organo-substituted polysiloxane moieties.
