A cabinet structure for a switchgear assembly. The cabinet structure includes a cabinet having upper and lower vents and a breaker cradle for holding a circuit breaker having primary disconnects for connecting the circuit breaker to bus bars. The cabinet further includes an air passageway located between the upper and lower vents, wherein the air passageway extends vertically through the primary disconnects and the cabinet. Further, the cabinet includes a fan module having at least one fan for drawing outside air through the lower vent, the air passageway and the primary disconnects for cooling the primary disconnects.

Modular bucket assemblies enable selective configuration of switchgear compartments for conformance with selective levels of personnel accessibility to energized switchgear. The bucket assemblies can be configured to enable personnel access to energized compartments while service doors are open, such as for instrumentation compartments. Interiors and the front face of instrumentation compartment bucket assemblies are isolated from potential infiltration of hot arc gasses in the switchgear cabinet. Other compartments can be configured to enable personnel access to the front face of a fully closed door energized circuit breaker compartment by isolating the compartment door exterior and venting any hot arc gasses out of the compartment interior in a direction away from the front and other peripheral sides of the switchgear cabinet.

Arc resistant switchgear modular compartment for instrumentation and circuit breakers

The present invention relates generally to a switchgear apparatus. More particularly, the invention encompasses a circuit breaker compartment arc flash venting system for a switchgear apparatus. The present invention also relates to enclosures for switchgear, panel boards, circuit breakers, and more particularly to an enclosure for low voltage switchgear and switchboard assemblies. The enclosure can be a walk-in type enclosure or a non-walk-in type enclosure. This invention further provides a method and apparatus for channeling plasma (hot arc gasses) that are generated from an arc. The circuit breaker compartment arc flash venting system is an integral part of an arc resistant switchgear assembly. The arc flash venting system works in conjunction with the bus insulation and ventilation systems in the switchgear apparatus to channel hot arc gasses (plasma) from a breaker compartment in the event of an internal arcing fault in the breaker compartment. The gasses are channeled to exit the upper rear of the breaker compartment and into the insulated section bus compartment. The hot arc gasses and other particulates then travel upward through the section bus compartment where they are routed to and safely discharged from the vent structure on the roof of the switchgear apparatus.

Circuit breaker compartment arc flash venting system

The present invention relates generally to a switchgear apparatus. More particularly, the invention encompasses a mounting base with arc plenum for a switchgear apparatus. The present invention also relates to enclosures for switchgear, panel boards, circuit breakers, and more particularly to an enclosure for low voltage switchgear and switchboard assemblies. The enclosure can be a walk-in type enclosure or a non-walk-in type enclosure. This invention further provides a method and apparatus for channeling plasma (hot arc gasses) that are generated from an arc. The switchgear mounting base with internal arc plenum can be an integral part of an arc resistant switchgear assembly and is preferably located under the switchgear. The switchgear mounting base works in conjunction with a ventilation system in the switchgear apparatus to channel hot arc gasses (plasma) from the lower breaker compartments in the front of the switchgear in the event of an internal arcing fault in one of the breaker compartments. The hot arc gasses exit downward from the bottom of the switchgear and into the plenum. The gasses then are channeled to travel backward through the plenum and then up again into the switchgear rear compartment where they can be routed to and safely discharged from the roof of the switchgear apparatus.

Mounting base with arc plenum

A method for isolating phases in an electrical equipment enclosure having multi-phase bus bars and a mounting base for mounting electrical equipment. The insulation system includes a plurality of components including a plurality of side isolation barriers with each barrier defining at least one slot proximate one edge of the barrier and having at least one tab along another edge of the barrier. A side barrier adapter is configured to engage the isolation barrier and to engage the mounting base. An inner isolation barrier is configured to isolate at least two of the vertical bus bars and couple to the mounting base. A vertical bus rear wall defining a plurality of slots proximate at least two edges of the cover is fastened to the inner isolation barrier. A plurality of corner connectors is configured to engage one of the cover slots and the side isolation barrier slots.

Modular insulation system

For use in switchgear equipment having channel bus bars joined together at a bus joint, there is provided a method of servicing and maintaining a channel bus splice assembly and method. The channel bus splice assembly comprises switchgear or switchboard equipment having channel bus bars joined together at a bus joint, there is provided a channel bus splice assembly. The channel bus splice assembly comprises an inner splice plate defining a plurality of throughbores. A sliding clamp plate is configured to reciprocally move within the inner splice plate. The sliding clamp plate defines a plurality of access ports. A pair of nut plates is coupled to the sliding clamp plate and having threaded orifices corresponding to selected throughbores in the inner splice plate. An outer splice plate having a plurality of throughbores corresponding to the threaded orifices in the nut plates.

Method of servicing a channel bus splice assembly

A method and modular insulation system for an electrical equipment enclosure having multi-phase bus bars and a mounting base for mounting electrical equipment. The insulation system includes a plurality of components including a plurality of side isolation barriers with each barrier defining at least one slot proximate one edge of the barrier and having at least one tab along another edge of the barrier. A side barrier adapter is configured to engage the isolation barrier and to engage the mounting base. An inner isolation barrier is configured to isolate at least two of the vertical bus bars and couple to the mounting base. A vertical bus rearwall defining a plurality of slots proximate at least two edges of the cover is fastened to the inner isolation barrier. A plurality of corner connectors is configured to engage one of the cover slots and the side isolation barrier slots.

A method and a mounting plate system for electrical equipment in a switchgear cabinet having spaced apart frame members. The mounting plate system comprises a first mounting plate having a plurality of orifices located proximate an outer edge of the first mounting plate. A second mounting plate having a plurality of orifices located proximate an outer edge of the second mounting plate, wherein the first and second mounting plates are configured to couple to the electrical equipment in the frame members, releaseably secure the electrical equipment to the frame member from the rear of the switchgear cabinet and facilitate removal of the electrical equipment from the front of the switchgear cabinet. Another embodiment, the mounting plate system provides one of the first and second mounting plates defining a through-hole configured to accept the wire.

For use in switchgear equipment having channel bus bars joined together at a bus joint, there is provided a channel bus splice assembly and method. The channel bus splice assembly comprises switchgear or switchboard equipment having channel bus bars joined together at a bus joint, there is provided a channel bus splice assembly. The channel bus splice assembly comprises an inner splice plate defining a plurality of throughbores. A sliding clamp plate is configured to reciprocally move within the inner splice plate. The sliding clamp plate defines a plurality of access ports. A pair of nut plates is coupled to the sliding clamp plate and having threaded orifices corresponding to selected throughbores in the inner splice plate. An outer splice plate having a plurality of throughbores corresponding to the threaded orifices in the nut plates.

Channel bus splice assembly

A method and a door arrangement for a switchgear enclosure, with the enclosure having a top and bottom panel, a back panel and two opposing side panels. The enclosure includes an interior framework supporting a draw-out circuit breaker. The door arrangement comprises a front extension coupled to the enclosure. An exterior door is pivotably mounted in an offset position to the front extension and configured to move from one of a closed position and an open position on one side of the enclosure. The breaker door is pivotably mounted to the interior framework and configured to move from one of a closed position and an open position on another side of the enclosure and move clear of the offset exterior door.

Switchgear enclosure

For use in switchgear equipment having bus bars joined together at a bus joint, there is provided a bus joint cover assembly and method. The bus joint cover assembly comprises a collar member having a snap slot. A cap member having a boss snap is configured to engage the snap slot. The cap member is configured to telescopically join with the collar member around the bus joint wherein the bus joint is contained within the bus joint cover assembly. The bus joint cover assembly can include a side cover member configured to position between the collar member and the cap member. The side cover member can be configured to provide a passage for bus bars and can be configured as a bus end cover.

Bus joint cover assembly

A bus brace comb assembly for use in a switchgear assembly. The switchgear assembly has a channel bus bar for conveying electrical current in each phase of the switchgear assembly. The bus brace comb assembly holds the bus bar in place against magnetic forces associated with short-circuit currents in the switchgear bus bar. The bus brace comb assembly comprises a front comb assembly including a first bus clip configured to position the bus bar and a front brace coupled to the bus clip. A rear comb assembly including an interlock clamp configured to engage the channel bus bar and a second bus clip secured to the interlock clamp with a fastener and a rear brace coupled to the interlock clamp/bus clip assembly. A flange of the channel bus bar is pinched in the interlock clamp/bus clip assembly to secure channel bus bar in the switchgear assembly.
