An improved belt separator system and an improved method to separate particle mixtures based on triboelectric separation of particles is disclosed. One or more gas nozzles, for example, a plurality of gas nozzles are provided as part of the system or installed into a system, such as an existing system, to improve dispersal of particles during operation.

A novel automatic wire terminal applying machine for attaching closed barrel terminals to the ends of lengths of wire is disclosed. In addition to the conventional operating mechanisms, including wire clamps, wire cutter and strippers, and terminal applicators, the wire end position control for longitudinally moving the wire clamps for retracting the stripped wire end to position it in overlapping relationship with the terminal for application of the terminal further includes wire insertion means for advancing the stripped wire end prior to operation of the terminal applicator for longitudinal, rather than transverse, insertion into the open end of a closed barrel terminal.

A post-insulated wire splice includes a conductive connector and an insulating member surrounding the connector. The connector includes a ferrule crimped around at least two wires, the ferrule having a generally smoothly curved exterior surface and having outer and inner ends defined with respect to the wires; the wires extend externally beyond the ferrule inner end and are terminated adjacent the ferrule outer end. The connector has a separation portion extending beyond the ferrule outer end, including an exterior surface continuous with the ferrule exterior surface and a sheared edge remote from the ferrule. The separation portion is deformed from a shape coincident with a portion of the projection of the ferrule exterior surface to displace the sheared edge inwardly of the projection toward the wires. The insulating member comprises a generally tubular sleeve of insulating plastic material, and in preferred embodiments is crimped and closed around the extending wires beyond the ferrule inner end. The insulating member fits closely around the connector and the connector sheared edge is spaced inwardly from the insulating member.

Insulated wire splice

Apparatus for assembling post insulated wire splices, each assembled splice having first a connector crimped around the wires and next insulation therearound, comprises wire gripper means to retain wires to be spliced in a fixed splice working position, connector forming means for crimping a connector around the wires, and connector feed means to supply a connector to the connector forming means. The connector forming means is movable between a position remote from the splice working position and a crimping position in which the forming means crimps a connector around the wires retained by the wire gripper means in the splice working position. The apparatus further comprises insulation assembly means for assembling insulation around the connector, and insulation feed means to provide insulation to the insulation assembly means. The insulation assembly means is movable between a position remote from the splice working position and an operating position in the splice working position.
