An electrochemical cell for which fuel is prepared and introduced under artificial gravity forces. The active metal is deposited through the action of the field on an anode current collecting member, effecting good compaction and reduced cell internal impedance. A microprocessor provides control of the induced gravity, flow rates, temperature, and other variables-enabling the active metal to be controlled in its thickness as well as providing a predetermined separation from the cathode. Abrasion of the cathode and the possibility of shorting are avoided by the presence of outwardly directed radial forces. These forces are induced by rotation of the electrolyte, air cathode, anode collector and the active metal. The forces promote also the passage of moisture laden air through the air cathode elements. Reaction products produced within the cell volume are circulated to an outside container for separation and possible reuse.

Metal-air electrochemical cell

A method and apparatus for detecting a leak in a pipeline and initiating, at the leak location, a sonic signal in the stream fluid, the signal being of a magnitude and character to be detected at remote upstream and downstream stations for location of the leak by known computations based on the time differential between the arrival times of the signals at the remotely spaced stations.

Sonic signalling transducer

A device for detecting and locating leaks in pipelines through which a stream of fluid flows under pressure. The device includes an elongate body portion providing support for axially spaced sets of plural radially extending baffles, fore and aft of the stream and of a diameter less than the inside diameter of the pipe to be probed; and an intermediate portion including a differential pressure measuring device and recorder which forms with the inner pipe wall, a chamber normally maintained at the stream pressure as the device is propelled through the pipe at the speed of fluid flow. As the device passes a leak fluid pressure in the chamber is reduced due to the substantial isolating affect of the baffles from the up and down stream pressures with a resultant recording indicative of the leak location, while eliminating the need of totally sealing off the chamber.
