A two part window and door assembly includes a sill, head and jambs for the window or door frame and stiles and rails for a window sash. Each of the sill, head, jambs, stiles and rails is formed in two parts, that is, an interior part and an exterior part. A coupling is used to join together the interior part and the exterior part of each of the sill, head, jambs, stiles and rails. The coupling includes an outrigger formed as an elongated member on one of the interior part and the exterior part. The other of the interior part and the exterior part defines an outrigger receiving slot. The coupling includes a first hook and a second hook. The first and second hooks are disposed on one and the other of the interior part and the exterior part. The outrigger is received by the outrigger receiving slot, and the first and second hooks engage each other to join the interior part and the exterior part together. A locking spline is used to selectively maintain the engagement of the first and second hooks so that the interior part and the exterior part remain joined together.

Two part window and door assembly and coupling for interconnecting components thereof

A cutout is made on the front wall of a substantially straight portion of spacer frame channel, having an apex at the axis of bend of the channel for making a corner of the frame, the edges of the cutout being angled so that they close down to a slot of at least 4 degrees opening when the channel bent on the axis to make the corner, sealant is applied on the front wall of the straight portion across the cutout before bending into a corner.

A corner element includes first and second sections that fit into legs of a framing channel, a first pair of parallel vertical panels on the first section interleave with a second pair of vertical parallel panels on the second section when the sections are rotated on an integral connecting hinge. A side of one of the panels of one section is recessed to receive one of the panels of the other section. One of the panels of one section is designed to receive a fastener that is guided by a through hole in a panel of the other section parallel to the height of panel of the other section.

Corner reinforcement for frame channel

A frame including a bracket receiver structure and at least one frame-to-sash bracket removably secured to the bracket receiver structure such that the frame-to-sash bracket can be removed or repositioned to enable various sash types to be interchanged within the frame. The frame-to-sash bracket can be a bracket configured to mount a double-hung sash, an inswing sash or an outswing sash within the frame. The various sash types can be installed from either the exterior side or the interior side of the frame.

Sash mount system

In a multi-position window that has a window sash that is rotatable out of the window frame on at least two different axis on pivots which are changed by a drive train on the sash moving to positions, the improvement includes one of a spring driven bolt and a strike on the window sash being moved by the drive train into alignment and engagement with the other on the window frame and with a hole for a tool to retract the bolt from the strike.

Tilt and turn window lock system

A screen frame formed from a metal sheet in a single unit folds and locks on V-cuts in a tube by a locking mechanism that is configured to engage in crossed directions by the folding.

A sash of a hopper window is linked to a shoe which engages a track in constant resistance to travel along the track such that the sash can be tilted by hand to any angle from the track within a predetermined range of angles, and will remain at the angle unaided.

A unitary composite frame member of two or more structural elements. A first and a second of the elements each contributes strength to the member. The second element, a plastic, encloses the first element on essentially all surfaces along the length of the first element, and is molded to itself through recesses of openings in an edge of the first element. The first element is discontinuous in that it is two walls attached lengthwise, and a third wall parallel to them and separate from them. In one embodiment, the third wall and one of the two walls intersect laterally.

Composite framing member construction for windows and doors

A unitary composite frame member of two or more structural elements. A first and a second of the elements each contributes strength to the member. The second element, a plastic, encloses the first element on essentially all surfaces along the length of the first element, and is molded to itself through openings in the first element. The first element is discontinuous in that it is two walls attached lengthwise, and a third wall parallel to them and separate from them. In one embodiment, the third wall and one of the two walls intersect laterally.

A unitary composite frame member of two or more structural elements. A first and a second of the elements each contributes strength to the member. The second element which is preferably a plastic, has a conductivity not exceeding 5% of that of the first element, and covers the first element, contributing to the shape of the frame member. Preferably each of the two elements is strong enough to retain its shape without aid from the other element, and the second element contributes at least 10% of the structural strength of the member. The elements are molded together, with the covering element in a plurality of similarly shaped openings in the element that it covers.

A pivot shoe that includes a rotary barrel cam mounted in the body of the shoe, and a brake in the opening that is urged axially rearward by the barrel cam, has a radial protuberance and an axial slot with radial wall operating in interference between the brake and an inward facing wall of the opening for holding the shoe in the opening.

An improved tip-in casement window has an outer frame, an inner sash, and elongated gasket strips. When the sash is assembled in the outer frame, an operatively continuous seal around the sash is created through the use of a downward facing gasket strip, thereby greatly increasing the insulative capability of a tip-in casement window.

Latch for a sliding window

A housing with a top wall, upstanding parallel walls and two upstanding posts between the upstanding walls on a line parallel with the walls. Each post extends through an elongated opening in a first bolt which is mounted slidingly in the housing for reciprocation toward first and second ends of the housing. The bolt is extendible beyond the second end of the housing for engaging a window jamb when the housing is mounted on a sash of a tilt window that is fully seated in the jamb. The bolt is urged toward the second end by a spring in one of the elongated openings, bearing on the bolt and the post in the opening. A second bolt is supported slidingly between the first bolt and one of the walls, and is extendible beyond the second end for engaging the jamb. A portion of the first bolt extends through an upstanding wall, and a portion of the second bolt extends through the top wall.
