A network comprises a network apparatus constructed and arranged for each of a plurality of vehicles in radio frequency (RF) communication with each other, the network apparatus comprising: at least one first transceiver; at least one second transceiver configured to exchange RF signals with the at least one first transceiver; receiver circuitry configured to determine timing information from the acquired RF signals; memory storing information related to fixed distances between the at least one first transceiver and the at least one second transceiver; a processor coupled to the memory to access the stored information related to the fixed distances, and to the receiver circuitry to receive the timing information determined from the RF signals, the processor being configured to determine a relative position of the vehicle with respect to a receipt of the RF signals based on the stored information related to the fixed distances between each of at least three spatially separated antenna and on the timing information determined by the receiver circuitry; and a control system configured to control operation of the vehicle in response to the relative position of the vehicle, determined by the processor.

Spatial diversity for relative position tracking

Methods and systems for tracking a package within an area obtain package identification information from a scannable medium associated with the package and image information of the area acquired by an optical sensing device. Image processing detects the presence and location of an object in the area that matches the package based on a comparison of the package identification information obtained from the scannable medium with the image information of the area acquired by the optical sensing device. The package is registered as being present in the area at the location of the detected object in response to detecting a match between the object and the package.

Package tracking systems and methods

A method of associating data with a physical location comprises receiving, by at least two receiver antennae, a radiofrequency (RF) signal transmitted by a mobile device, the RF signal conveying data collected by the mobile device from an external source; calculating, for each of the at least two receiver antennae, a phase of the RF signal received by each receiver antennae; calculating, based on the calculated phases, a physical location from where the mobile device transmitted the RF signal; and associating the data conveyed by the RF signal and the external source from which the data were collected with the calculated physical location from where the mobile device transmitted the RF signal.

Tracking system with mobile reader

A tracking system uses a mobile reader or scanner that scans, for example through a barcode reader, a passive tag reader, a probe, input, camera, or an active RF tag communication reader, and records item (asset or inventory) data. After being recorded, this item data and other relevant data is sent by radio transmission to a receiver network in the tracking system. The receiver network has at least two receivers (or at least two receiver antennae). The scanner location data, calculated by comparing the signal information at each receiver antenna receiving the radio transmission, is then used to register and record the location data of the scanned item.

Vehicles and methods of navigating vehicles comprise at least three receiver antennae configured to receive radio frequency (RF) signals from one or more RF-transmitting antennae coupled to an object, receiver circuitry coupled to the receiver antennae to acquire the RF signals and to determine timing information from the acquired RF signals, memory storing information related to fixed distances between each receiver antenna and each other receiver antenna, a processor configured to determine a relative position of the vehicle with respect to the one or more RF-transmitting antennae based on the stored information related to the fixed distances between each receiver antenna and each other receiver antenna and on the timing information determined by the receiver circuitry, and a control system configured to control operation of the vehicle in response to the relative position of the vehicle with respect to the one or more RF-transmitting antennae determined by the processor.

Spatial diveristy for relative position tracking

A tracking system is described having at least two mobile transmitter/receivers ('transceivers') which sense and respond to at least one tracking transceiver. The signals sent to and received from the mobile transceivers are analyzed to get a distance (range) that each is from the tracking transceiver. This can be converted into a position relative to the mobile transceivers. If there are enough transceivers, and at least one knows its absolute location, the absolute location of the mobile transceivers may be determined. Existing smartphones, cellphones, WI-FI&#xae; wireless standard routers, BLUETOOTH&#xae; wireless standard devices, and near-field devices that have on-board processors, can be modified to run executable code to implement the current invention. They may communicate using at least one of the modalities for tracking. These may be implemented in tracking the position and orientation of moving devices, such as a head-mounted display for virtual/Augmented Reality, automobiles, packages in a package delivery truck. The system may also be implemented to identify and keep track of the last known location of various objects.

Accurate geographic tracking of mobile devices

Tracking systems and methods for obtaining position coordinates of transmitters are provided. One or more transmitters send multiple carrier signals to multiple receivers, where the time difference of arrival of the multiple carrier signals are used to determine the location of each transmitter. Accuracy is obtained by using phase information of multiple carrier frequencies for time difference of arrival measurements. The accuracy obtained by a receiver depends on the quality of the received carrier signal; a received carrier signal may become distorted by the presence of multipath interference. By using multiple signals with different frequencies, the system can screen or compensate for multipath effects. This screening can be accomplished either through various signal-sampling techniques or by averaging the signals received at the receiver. Because signals with different frequencies have different multipath experiences, a computer can analyze and compensate for 'good' and 'bad' signals.
