A &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing vinyl monomer is generally provided, which can include a polymerizable group, a linker group, and a &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain. The &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain includes a first cyclopentadiene ring covalently attached to the linder group, a set of second cyclopentadiene rings covalently attached to the first cyclopentadiene ring, and a third cyclopentadiene ring positioned at a terminal end of the &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain such that the set of second cyclopentadiene rings is positioned between the first cyclopentadiene ring and the third cyclopentadiene ring. Methods are also provided for forming a polymer via polymerizing the &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing vinyl monomer, and for grafting a &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing polymer onto a surface of a nanomaterial.

Preparation of conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing dielectric polymers and their applications

A &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing vinyl monomer is generally provided, which can include a polymerizable group, a linker group, and a &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain. The &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain includes a first cyclopentadiene ring covalently attached to the linker group, a set of second cyclopentadiene rings covalently attached to the first cyclopentadiene ring, and a third cyclopentadiene ring positioned at a terminal end of the &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain such that the set of second cyclopentadiene rings is positioned between the first cyclopentadiene ring and the third cyclopentadiene ring. In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a system for determining the rate of gas permeation through a film is described. The system comprises a continuous flow permeation cell, a mass spectrometer, a test gas source, and a carrier gas source. The continuous flow permeation cell comprises a supply chamber in communication with the test gas source and a receiving chamber in communication with the carrier gas source and the mass spectrometer. The supply chamber is configured to be separated from the receiving chamber by a test film such that when a test gas stream is fed to the supply chamber from the test gas source and a carrier gas stream is fed to the receiving chamber from the carrier gas source. At least a portion of the test gas stream permeates from the supply chamber through the test film to the receiving chamber and mixes with the carrier gas stream and the mixture flows to the mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer is utilized to determine the rate of permeation of the test gas stream through the film.

Systems and methods for measurement of gas permeation through polymer films

Multi-metal phosphonates are generally provided. The multi-metal phosphonate can generally have the composition: AB(RPO), where A is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb, La, or combinations thereof; B is Ti, Zr, Al, or combinations thereof; and R is an organic group (e.g., aryl group, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, etc.). The multi-metal phosphonate can be combined with a polymeric material to form a polymeric film. Methods of making the multi-metal phosphonate by combining and reacting a metal oxide and an organophosphonic acid are also provided.

Methods of making layered mixed-metal phosphonates for high dielectric strength polymer nanocomposites

Mixed metal phosphonates are generally provided. The mixed metal phosphonate can generally have the composition: AB(RPO), where A is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb, La, Co, Mn, Fe, or combinations thereof; B is Ti, Zr, Al, or combinations thereof; and R is an organic group (e.g., aryl group, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, etc.). The mixed metal phosphonate can be combined with a polymeric material to form a polymeric film. Methods of making the mixed metal phosphonate by combining and reacting a metal oxide and an organophosphonic acid are also provided.
