Disclosed herein is a gas sensitive apparatus that is useful in view of its applicability to the detection or quantitative determination of individual gases present in a gas mixture, and is advantageous in view of its compact size, and its low power consumption.

Gas sensitive apparatus

Disclosed herein is a device and method for converting the resistances of an array of metal oxide sensors into digital signals, wherein the sensors respond to the concentration of gases surrounding the sensor array. The device includes an electronic excitation device that provides an excitation voltage to the sensors; analog-to-digital signal conversion devices that convert the resistances of the sensors to digital signals; and means for calculating gas concentrations from the digital signals.

System and method for sensing and analyzing gases

A breath alcohol detection device includes a one-piece multi-passage block with attached sensors, a valve and a fuel cell. The cell accurately determines the BrAC of a prospective vehicle operator. In the event the BrAC is less than the legal maximum for a territory, the device unlocks an ignition interlock to permit starting of the engine and operation of the vehicle.

The coaxial capacitor structure has an inner female connector and an outer conductive shell, the coaxial cable inner conductor is connected to the inner female connector for holding the flexible probe, and the coaxial cable outer conductor is connected to the outer conductive shell. The inner female connector is insulated from the outer conductive shell, the other end of the coaxial cable is connected to a standard coaxial connector, and the impedance seen at the input of the standard coaxial connector is standardized.

An improved pump unit for sampling air that operates at a constant air flow rate in the range of 5-5000 cc/min. having a filter for removing particles or vapors from the air stream, an air accumulator, a variable drive pump optionally with a bypass, an electric motor for driving the pump, an optional air reservoir, an orifice which creates a pressure drop in the air stream, an optional bypass for the orifice and a pressure switch connected in parallel to the orifice which monitors a change in the air pressure drop; the improvement in the pump is the use of a digital circuit electrically connected to the pressure switch and a closed loop control means electrically connected to the digital circuit and motor; a digital signal determines the open or closed position of the switch and the control means and allows current to flow or not flow to the motor driving the air pump to provide a constant flow of air through the unit; the pump unit is worn by a worker or is placed in a work area and at the termination of a period of time, such as a work day, the filter is removed and the contents collected are analyzed by conventional techniques such as gas chromatography to determine a level of exposure of the individual or the level of exposure of people working in that area.

A machine tool safety system having a signal induced in a capacitive receptor antenna by the action of an electric field capacitively coupled thereto includes a receiver having an array of linear amplifiers with fast response times, a network connected to the output of each amplifier and responsive to a first command to sample the amplifier output signal, an analog-to-digital converter associated with the sampling network to quantize the signal from the first amplifier in the array that is not saturated, and a network responsive to a second command to dump the sampled signal value prior to the occurrence of the next sample time.
