A fluid transfer structure for a transmission has a tube disposed in a central bore of a shaft. The shaft and the tube cooperate to provide a feed passage, central of the tube, and a substantially annular lube passage formed between the tube and the central bore. The tube and shaft have cooperating structures that provide proper alignment of the tube in the central bore. A plurality of radial passages are formed in the shaft in communication with the central bore. At least one of the radial passages is in communication with the feed passage which is sealed from fluid communication with the annular lube passage. The remaining radial passages are in limited fluid communication with the annular lube passage. The tube has radially outwardly extending portions aligned with respective ones of the radial passages and cooperate therewith to form flow restriction structures. The extending portions are not fully annular such that free fluid flow is possible along the length of the annular passage.

Shaft with fluid transfer structure

A power transmission has a housing comprised of an end support, a casing, an end cover, a converter housing, an input shaft, an output shaft and a pair of identically dimensional countershafts. A bushing and oil feed sleeve are positioned on each end of each countershaft for cooperating with the end support connecting the housing for alignment therebetween and with the casing for alignment therebetween. Each countershaft has a pair of ratio gears rotatably disposed thereon and meshing with respective output gears rotatable with the output shaft and a friction clutch is provided for each ratio gear. Four of the friction clutches which are disposed on the countershafts are identical in construction. A fifth clutch assembly, in line with the input shaft, can be shortened, if desired, by the elimination of one friction plate and one reaction plate. Each clutch has an apply piston which cooperates with respective lube passaged formed in the shaft to control lubricant and cooling flow to each respective clutch during engagement. A reverse gear pair has one gear member connectible to one countershaft by a synchronizer clutch and one of the friction clutches and the other gear member drivingly connected with a ratio gear on the other countershaft. A park pawl secured to one of the reverse gear members is provided to obtain a park gear having a torque ratio greater than one with the output shaft thereby providing improved disengagement loading in the park system.

Countershaft power transmission with dowel pin and seal ring structure

In an engine housing and transmission housing adapted to be moved axially together, an easily actuatable and releasable attachment means for joining the housings coaxially together so as to prevent relative rotation and axial separation. Retention grooves cut through interfitting non-rotation splines on the housings provide oppositely facing limit surfaces, with one retention groove also providing a pocket for an expandable and contractable retention ring. In a stored position, the ring is located outside of the root of the splines, so that the housings may be pushed together without resistance, which also serves to align the retention grooves. The ring is then contracted by a single turnable fastener, moving it out of the pocket and between the oppositely facing limit surfaces to prevent axial separation of the housings.

Engine and transmission housing with improved attachment

In a side-by-side engine and transmission assembly wherein the engine has a block defining a primary rotating group axis and the transmission has a drive output axis and a power input axis parallel thereto and laterally spaced therefrom, a connection between the engine and transmission includes a transfer case attached to the engine generally amidships thereof defining an engine power output axis parallel to and spaced from the primary rotating group axis, a pair of trunnions on the transfer case aligned on the engine power output axis, a pair of saddles on the transmission aligned on the transmission input axis, the trunnions being received in the saddles to connect the engine to the transmission with the engine power output and transmission power input axes coinciding, drive shaft means aligned on the coincident axes to conduct engine power from the transfer case to the transmission, and a torque reaction control connection between the engine and transmission remote from the coincident axes.
