Method and device for removing foreign bodies from a first tobacco stream that is conveyed via an air flow in a region of a first foreign body detection device. Method includes detecting, with a first foreign body detection device, the foreign bodies in the first tobacco stream based on at least one property, and removing, with a jet of compressed air, the foreign bodies from the first tobacco stream. In this manner, a foreign body freed tobacco stream and a second tobacco stream including tobacco particles and the foreign bodies entrained by the jet of compressed air are formed. Method also includes at least one of: accelerating the second stream at a distance from the first tobacco stream; and detecting, with a second foreign body detector, foreign bodies in the second stream based on at least one property and removing the detected foreign bodies with a second jet of compressed air.

Method and device for removing foreign particles from a tobacco stream

An apparatus and method for post-threshing inspection and sorting of tobacco lamina is described and which includes a separation conduit which receives a source of post-threshed tobacco lamina and other contaminants for inspection and sorting, and wherein a source of pressurized air causes the tobacco lamina to move along the separation conduit past an inspection station where it is optically inspected to identify undesirable tobacco lamina or other contaminants; and a downstream reject station is provided which responds to a sorting signal provided by the inspection station and which removes unwanted or undesirable tobacco lamina and other contaminants from an air stream so as to provide a resulting product which is substantially free from contaminants or other defects.

Apparatus and method for post-threshing inspection and sorting of tobacco lamina

The invention relates to a method for the separation of foreign bodies and a device for the separation of foreign bodies from a tobacco stream. The method according to the invention is characterized in that the tobacco stream is directly conveyed into the area of the foreign-body detection device with compressed air and whereby foreign bodies in the tobacco stream are identified by means of the foreign-body detection device based on at least one characteristic and subsequently removed from the tobacco stream. The A device according to the invention is characterized in that a device (feeding device) feeding the tobacco to a foreign-body detection device and a foreign-body separation device are provided, whereby the tobacco feeding device for conveying the tobacco stream comprises a source of compressed air.

Method and device for the separation of foreign bodies

Method and apparatus for the separation of foreign bodies from a material flow, in particular a tobacco stream. Method is characterized in that at least a portion of the material from the material flow is conveyed into the area of a foreign-body detection device in the form of a partial material flow, whereby foreign bodies are identified by the foreign-body detection device in the partial material flow and subsequently removed from the partial material flow, whereby the partial material flow is formed by a separation step by an air flow upstream from the foreign-body detection device. Apparatus is characterized in that a material flow conveyor and a separation device arranged diagonal to the material flow conveyor are provided by which a partial material flow can be separated from the material flow. A foreign-body detection device is arranged after the separation device and after this, a foreign-body separation device.

Method and apparatus for foreign-body separation from a material flow

There is provided an apparatus which can simplify, expedite and enhance the segregation of undesirable particles from desirable particles in a multiple-layer flow wherein the desirable and undesirable particles are randomly intermixed with each other. This is accomplished by a stepwise reduction of the thickness of the flow to thus locate all or nearly all undesirable particles at or close to the exposed sides of the resulting relatively thin flow so that the undesirable particles can be readily detected and segregated from the thin flow. The stepwise reduction of thickness of the original flow is effected by a cascade of successive accelerating conveyors including a first conveyor which receives successive increments of the original flow from a vibratory trough, and a faster second conveyor which receives successive increments of the accelerated flow from the first conveyor and cooperates with an overhead conveyor to define a channel for advancement of the repeatedly accelerated original flow into the range of instrumentalities for detection and segregation of undesirable particles.

Apparatus for converting a continuously supplied material flow into a single layer

An apparatus for manipulating a multilayer stream of tobacco particles with randomly intermixed foreign particles has a vibratory conveyor which advances the stream toward and discharges successive increments of the stream onto the upper reach of an endless belt or chain serving to advance the increments at a speed exceeding the speed of advancement of the stream by the vibratory conveyor. The endless belt or chain discharges a single layer of tobaco particles and foreign particles, and such single layer is caused to move past a segregating unit which detects and expels foreign particles therefrom.
