A pegylated and hydroxlated trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene is provided comprising a plurality of hydroxyl groups and one or more polyethylene glycol (PEG) moieties covalently bonded to a fullerene encapsulating a trimetallic nitride. Methods of pegylation and hydroxylation of trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene and methods of using pegylated and hydroxlated trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene are described.

Pegylation and hydroxylation of trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes

Trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene derivatives and their preparation are described. The trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene derivatives have the general formula AX@C(R) where n ranges from 0 to 3, A and X may be trivalent metals and may be either rare earth metal or group IIIB metals, m is between about 60 and about 200, and R is preferably an organic group. Derivatives where the R group forms cyclized derivatives with the fullerene cage are also described.

Endohedral metallofullerene derivatives

A method for imagining and treating a body employing at least one trimetallic nitride template endohedral metallofullerene compound is disclosed. The compound has at least one diagnostic and at least one treatment atom encapsulated within a fullerene cage. The two atoms are different from each other. The compound is administered into a body, traced, and allowed to react at a targeted area of the body.

A family of trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes and their preparation are described. The trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes have the general formula A,X,&commat;C,where n ranges from 0 to 3, A and X may be trivalent metals and may be either rare earth metal or group IIIB metals, and m is between about 60 and about 200. Further, the A,X,&commat;C,, A,X,&commat;C,, A,X,&commat;C,families of endohedral fullerenes are described. The trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes are produced by charging a reactor with a cored graphite rod that has been filled with a metal oxide graphite mixture. The metal oxides correspond to the metals for A and X. The graphite rod is arc discharged in a helium and nitrogen atmosphere to produce the desired trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes.
