A semiconductor or integrated circuit block including a sense node and a converter circuit, in which the sense node develops a low frequency electrical parameter that is constant or varies at a frequency below a predetermined frequency level, and in which the converter circuit converts the low frequency electrical parameter into an alternating electrical parameter having a frequency at or above the predetermined frequency level sufficient to modulate a laser beam focused within a laser probe area of the converter circuit. The converter may include a ring oscillator, a switch circuit controlled by a clock enable signal, a capacitor having a charge rate based on the low frequency electrical parameter, etc. The laser probe area has a frequency level based on a level of the low frequency electrical parameter to modulate the reflected laser beam for measurement of the electrical parameter by a laser voltage probe test system.

A three-axis accelerometer signal is used in a medical device for detecting that a patient has fallen. The accelerometer signal is sampled at a low sampling rate for determining a patient position. The accelerometer signal is sampled at a high sampling rate for determining an acceleration magnitude in response to determining the patient position. The patient position and acceleration magnitude are used to detect that a patient has fallen.

A medical device is directed to techniques for removing polarization artifacts from electrical activity signals in order to detect presence of an evoked response. More specifically, a medical device receives a signal that represents electrical activity within a heart of a patient following delivery of a stimulation pulse to the heart and reconfigures a filter state of a filter from an initial filter state to remove the polarization artifact from the electrical activity signal in order to determine whether a cardiac event, such as an evoked response has occurred. The medical device may, for example, when the filter of the medical device is a digital filter, recalculate the values of digital filter components using the present input value of the electrical activity signal as a direct current (DC) input value of the digital filter.
