A method and apparatus for making webbed plastic tubing suitable for use as a support for a filter pad in a cartridge filter. The webbed tubing is made by extruding a thermoplastic polymer in the form of a tube, cutting slits in the tube, and expanding the still warm and plastic tube by passing it over a mandrel slightly larger in diameter than the unexpanded tube.

Webbed plastic tubing

A non-woven fabric web is converted to a tubular shape by forming the web between a cylindrical mandrel and surrounding sleeve, and passing reciprocating barbed needles through the region where the sides of the web abut each other, to form a butt joint thereat. The apparatus includes a pair of rollers for drawing the tubular shaped web between the mandrel and sleeve, as well as a motor and control circuit for operating the reciprocating needles.

Apparatus for manufacturing non-woven fabric tubular filter

A rotary filter apparatus includes a tank for containing a slurry to be filtered. A rotary drum is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis. The drum has a filter surface which extends into the slurry, so that the filtrate may be withdrawn from the interior of the drum. An agitator in the bottom of the tank includes a vane mounted below the drum for rotation about a horizontal axis. The vane is driven to reciprocate through a driven angle about its rotational axis.
