An apparatus has a Radio Frequency (RF) signal generator to produce RF signals phase shifted relative to one another in accordance with RF frequency waveform parameters. Amplifier chains process the RF signals to produce channels of amplified RF signals. Each amplifier chain has amplifiers and at least one amplifier has a tunable gate voltage synchronized with the RF signals.

Apparatus and method for synchronizing power circuits with coherent RF signals to form a steered composite RF signal

A beamforming system includes a plurality of channelizers and a channel switching module in signal communication with the channelizers. Each channelizer is configured to receive a respective input radio frequency signal and to generate a plurality of respective channels in response to downsampling the respective input radio frequency signal. The channel switching module includes a channel combining circuit configured to selectively combine a common channel generated by each channelizer to form at least one steered analog beam.

An array of antennae includes a monobit transmitter to insert dither into a transmit signal to form a dithered transmit signal. Monobit receivers process received signals that are combined with the dithered transmit signal to form composite received signals. Digital down converters process the composite received signals to form down converted received signals. A beam former circuit processes the down converted received signals to form recovered signals.

An RF detection system includes a signal routing processor and a dynamically reconfigurable channelizer. The signal routing processor selects an operating mode of the RF detection system among a plurality of different operating mode. The dynamically reconfigurable channelizer invokes the selected operating mode in response to a routing control signal output by the signal routing processor. The dynamically reconfigurable channelizer includes a plurality of signal processing resources and a crossbar switching circuit. The crossbar switching circuit includes a signal input to receive an input signal and a signal output to output a final processed signal indicating a detected object. The crossbar switching circuit selectively establishes a plurality of different signal routing paths that connect the plurality of signal processing resources to the signal input and signal output.

Single clock timeshared channelizer circuit

A signal identification system includes an analog adaptive channelizer having a plurality of channels. Each channel has a channel size defined by a bandwidth and a gain. The system further includes an electronic signal identification (ID) controller in signal communication with the analog adaptive channelizer. The ID controller is configured to determine a dynamic range event that modifies an energy level of an affected channel among the plurality of channels, and output a feedback signal including channel parameters based on the dynamic range event. The analog adaptive channelizer actively adjusts at least one of the bandwidth and the gain of the affected channel based on the feedback to change the channel size of the affected channel.

A transmitter. In some embodiments, the transmitter has an electrical input and an optical output. The transmitter may include a light source; an optical amplitude modulator having an optical input connected to the light source, a modulation input connected to the electrical input, and an output; and a first gated optical comparator, having a sampling clock input, an analog input connected to the output of the optical amplitude modulator, and an output. The first gated optical comparator may be configured to generate, for each cycle of an optical sampling clock signal received at the sampling clock input, a one-bit digital representation of an analog optical signal received at the analog input.

In some embodiments, the system includes a one-bit receiver, and the one-bit receiver includes a digital pseudo random noise generator, a one-bit digital to analog converter, a power combiner, a one-bit analog to digital converter, and a digital subtraction circuit. The digital pseudo random noise generator produces a signal added to the received signal before analog to digital conversion. After analog to digital conversion, a delayed version of the dither is subtracted from the digital signal.

A system and method of digital beamforming for a monobit phased array radar system includes providing a plurality of monobit analog signals received by at least one antenna to at least one field programmable gate array (FPGA). A plurality of monobit SerDes transceivers within the FPGA convert the plurality of monobit analog signals into a plurality of multibit digital signals, each of the multibit digital signals being modified according to a digital signal conditioning value to calibrate, phase align, and synchronize the digital signals. A digital beam is formed by coherently combining the plurality of digital signals within the FPGA.

An RF communication system includes a wideband receiver for receiving an RF signal; a wideband receive signal path for processing the received RF signal, a wideband transmit signal path for processing a transmit RF signal to be transmitted; a wideband transmitter for transmitting the transmit RF signal at a selected transmit frequency and a selected transmit polarization; and a processor for controlling a plurality of beam forming circuits for performing signal processing and waveform generation, wherein the processor maximizes an effective radiated power (ERP) of the communication system within a predetermined ERP limit by switching the wideband transmitter between at least one of multiple transmit frequencies and multiple transmit polarizations to form an aggregate, time-averaged signal as the transmit RF signal.

A method for concurrent transmission of different signal types by a radar system includes: receiving a waveform request for transmitting a first signal type and a second signal type; determining whether the first signal or the second signal is optimized; when the first signal is optimized: transmitting the first and the second signal simultaneously in separate bands; and when the second signal is optimized: determining a time gap between transmission of the second signal, and adjusting pulse repetition interval (PRI) or pulse width of the first signal to fit in the time gap, transmitting the second signal, and transmitting the first signal in the time gap between the transmission of the second signal.

System and method for concurrent communication of different signal types by a radar

System and method for beamspace nonlinear equalization in a plurality of parallel channels includes: receiving M parallel signals for transmission by N channels, respectively, wherein M is an integer greater than or equal to 1 and N is an integer greater than 1; performing a linear transfer function on each of the M parallel signal by a finite impulse response (FIR) filter; adding FIR filter tap outputs to each M parallel signals, respectively; phase shifting an output of a respective FIR filter per each of the M parallel signals to generate M intermediate channelized output signals per each of the N channels; summing, by a single summer, the M intermediate channelized output signals across the N channels to produce M channelized polyphase output signals; serializing the M channelized polyphase output signals to generate serialized M polyphase output signals; and equalizing the serialized M polyphase output signals to produce a linearized signal in beamspace.

Beamspace nonlinear equalization for spur reduction

A digital receiver includes a digital synthesizer that generates a local oscillating (LO) signal at a selected frequency, and a signal mixer that receives an input signal and generates a mixed output signal in response to shifting a phase of the input signal based on the frequency of the LO signal. A multi-mode dynamic channelizer is selectively operable in a first mode and a second mode. The first mode generates a plurality of individual channels having a channel size defined by a bandwidth and a gain, and the second mode generates a parallelization of a selected channel. In response to operating in the second mode, the multi-mode dynamic channelizer adjusts at least one of the bandwidth and the gain of the selected channel based on the mixed output signal to change the channel size of the selected channel.
