A compressor includes a shell, a bearing housing, an orbiting scroll, a non-orbiting scroll and a spacer. The bearing housing includes a central body and a plurality of arms extending radially outwardly from the central body. Each of the arms has a first aperture. The non-orbiting scroll is meshingly engaged with the orbiting scroll and includes a plurality of second apertures. Each second aperture receives a bushing defining a first longitudinal axis and a fastener defining a second longitudinal axis. The fastener extends through the bushing and into a corresponding one of the first apertures in the bearing housing. The spacer is disposed between the bushing and the fastener of each second aperture and is configured to engage one of the bushing and the fastener to restrict radial misalignment between the first longitudinal axis of the bushing and the second longitudinal axis of the fastener.

A compressor includes a shell assembly and a compression mechanism disposed within the shell assembly. The shell assembly includes first and second end caps. A suction chamber is disposed within the shell assembly between the first end cap and the second end cap. A discharge chamber and oil sump may be disposed within the shell assembly. The shell assembly includes at least one suction opening into the suction chamber. A distributor is in communication with one of the suction openings. Plugs may sealingly engage another one of the suction openings. The distributor includes an inlet path and first and second outlet paths. A suction line is coupled to the inlet path. The suction line includes at least first and second portions. A first plane bisecting the second portion along a length of the second portion is perpendicular to a second plane that bisects the first and second outlet paths.

A compressor is provided and may include a shell, a hub, an insert, and at least one collar. The hub may be disposed within the shell and define an axis of rotation. The hub may include an axially extending aperture. The insert may be disposed within the aperture. The at least one collar may be disposed about the hub.

A scroll compressor includes a compression mechanism contained within a shell. A non-orbiting scroll is supported for axial displacement relative the shell, and includes an end plate having a wrap extending therefrom and a flange having a bore extending therethrough. A guide member is axially fixed relative the shell and extends through the bore in the flange. A first portion of the guide member is disposed within and generally abuts a first circumferential portion of the bore. A second portion of the guide member is disposed within and generally spaced apart from a second circumferential portion of the bore.

An axial complaint mounting system for a scroll machine positions the centroid reaction of the mounting system toward the top of a mounting bore extending through the axial compliant scroll member. The mounting system defines a first clearance located near the top of the mounting bore and a second clearance located near the bottom of the mounting bore. The positioning of the centroid reaction for the mounting system is accomplished by designing the second clearance larger than the first clearance.

A foot plate for mounting a compressor includes a mounting plate, a pair of upwardly extending flanges, a pair of downwardly extending flanges and an upwardly extending mounting flange. The mounting flange is utilized to secure a compressor by being attached to the shell of the compressor. When tandem compressor assemblies are used, the pair of upwardly extending flanges provide clearance for a pair of rails which interconnect the tandem compressors without having to modify the foot plates. In one embodiment, the foot plates are welded or brazed to the rails. In another embodiment, a set of grommets position the foot plate on the rail and the foot plate is bolted to the rail. In another embodiment, a set of grommets position and secure the foot plate to the rail.

A compressor is driven by a drive shaft rotatably supported by a main bearing housing and a lower bearing housing. The main bearing housing positions a main bearing at or near a nodal point of the drive shaft during vibration by the drive shaft. The main bearing housing is designed such that the main bearing pivots during the vibration of the drive shaft in order to maintain surface contact between the bearing and the drive shaft to eliminate edge loading of the bearing.

A scroll compressor has a pair of interleaved scrolls. An Oldham coupling is attached to the orbiting scroll to prevent rotation of the orbiting scroll. This Oldham coupling has keys that are slidingly received in slots. One side of each key is loaded while the opposite side is non-loaded. The non-loaded side of the key has a stepped or profiled surface to provide clearance to allow deflection of the key. In another embodiment, the stepped or profiled surface is provided on the non-loaded side of the slot.

A scroll compressor has a shell within which is positioned a frame. The frame is supported by a base portion of the shell to prevent axial movement of the frame with respect to the shell. A motor stator, a main bearing housing and a lower bearing housing are each positioned within the shell by engagement with the frame. A drive member which includes a motor rotor is rotatably supported by both the main bearing housing and the lower bearing housing. The frame, by positioning the motor stator, the main bearing housing and the lower bearing housing, allows the &ldquo;air gap&rdquo; between the motor stator and the motor rotor to be accurately controlled.

An Oldham coupling for a scroll machine has two posts rather than the traditional four posts. Each post of the Oldham coupling of the present invention defines two keys. One key is for engagement with the orbiting scroll. The other key is for engagement with the non-orbiting scroll in one embodiment or for engagement with the main bearing housing in another embodiment. The two posts of the Oldham coupling can be connected by a continuous ring or the two posts of the Oldham coupling can be connected by a connecting member extending between the two posts.

A scroll compressor has an orbiting scroll which has an end plate with a hub extending generally perpendicular from the end plate. The hub defines a bore within which a bearing is press fit. The machining of the bore in the hub is done in a conical manner to accommodate and compensate for the unequal distortion of the hub between the two ends of the hub. The conical shape and the unequal distortion provide an assembled bearing with a more cylindrically shaped inner surface.

A scroll machine designed to provide an unbalanced loading of the orbiting scroll and anti-rotation coupling in a direction which adds to the moment caused by contact forces between the scroll wraps during normal operation. The loading decreases the sound level of the machine and is achieved through the use of unbalanced flank gas leakage forces and flank contact forces, which are created by providing a targeted initial swing radius bias and/or a generating radius bias to either one or both of the scroll wraps. The generating radius biasing can be singular or plural on a given scroll wrap set. A number of different techniques for obtaining such biasing are disclosed.

There is disclosed an improved two-piece enclosure for a refrigerant compressor which is very simple in design and which effectively attenuates the sound produced by that compressor and, at the same time, requires a minimum amount of additional space and provides easy access to the compressor for service and the like. Two embodiments are shown, one with sound insulation on the walls of the container and another with sound insulation on the compressor.
