A glass cleaning device employs an inner component having a body with an associated first cleaning element and a second movable portion positionable from a first to second position, the second portion associated with a second cleaning element. A support magnet is carried within the body and at least one magnetic element is carried in the second movable portion. An outer component provides a handle for manipulation by a user with a first magnetic element carried within the handle for operable engagement of the support magnetic in the inner component to draw the body into contact with an inner surface of an aquarium wall to be cleaned. A selection magnet carried within the handle allows engagement with at least one magnetic element in the movable portion. Positioning of the selection magnet adjacent the magnetic element actuates the movable portion for operable engagement of the second cleaning element on the inner surface of the aquarium wall.

Aquarium cleaning device with selectable secondary cleaning element

An aquarium cleaning device having an inner component with a plate employing a cleaning surface and an alternative cleaning element operative on a second surface opposite the cleaning surface. A magnetic element is carried by the plate and means for providing orienting buoyancy is carried adjacent one end of the plate. An outer component has a body with a surface for engaging the exterior of an aquarium wall. A second magnetic element is carried by the body such that the body is positionable for magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements with the cleaning surface adjacent the aquarium wall or with the second surface adjacent the aquarium wall. By moving the body between the first and second positions, the inner component is flipped within the aquarium to alternate the cleaning elements.

Multifunction aquarium cleaning device

A remotely actuated surface cleaning device employs an inner component having a resiliently flexible body with a plurality of embedded magnets and a cleaning element to engage a surface to be cleaned. An outer housing containing an electric motor moves a support disc containing an operably like plurality of magnets to those embedded in the body. The inner and outer components are placed oppositely adjacent on the surface to be cleaned thereby supporting the inner component with respect to the outer component by magnetic attraction. Operation of the motor moving the second support disc causes the sympathetic motion of the first support disc and body thereby rapidly moving the cleaning element across the surface to be cleaned.

Remotely actuated surface cleaning device

A heart rate monitor adapted to be worn on eyewear such as a pair of eyeglasses, a mask or goggles. The heart rate monitor includes a sensor in contact with the bridge of the user's nose. The sensor is responsive to pressure variations or pulses produced during a heart beat cycle. The sensor provides an analog signal having a frequency equal to the user's pulse rate. The analog signal output from the sensor provides an input signal for a microprocessor which includes a frequency counter and signal averager. A microprocessor output signal having a magnitude which is proportional to the heart rate in beats per minute provides the input signal for an optical readout device such as a digital display which is preferably mounted on the frame or stem of the user's eyewear. The image on the optical display is conducted to an eyepiece lens which is mounted most preferably on one of the lenses of the eyewear by means of an image conduit such as a fiber optic or fiber optic bundle. The eyepiece lens is positioned such that the image of the optical display is positioned at the focal plane of the user's eye for comfortable viewing. In a most preferred embodiment of the heart rate monitor, the microprocessor, power supply and digital display are contained within a housing that is releasably attached to eyewear. The proximal end of a fiber optic bundle is adjustably attached to the housing and in optical communication with the digital display. A display lens is adjustably attached to the opposing distal end of the fiber optic bundle. A pair of pulse rate sensor electrodes in contact with a user's nose provide an electrical signal containing pulse rate data to the microprocessor. The image on the digital display is conducted by the fiber optic bundle to the display lens adjustably disposed within the field of view of the user.

Eyewear heart rate monitor

A device for evaluating loss of protective sensation, which comprises a probe mounted on a head that is pivotally attached to a handle member, is provided. The handle member has a protective channel. When the head is pivoted so that the device is operative, the probe extends outwardly from the handle member. When the head is pivoted into a closed position, the probe is stored within the protective channel.

Device for evaluating protective sensation

A device for evaluating protective sensation, comprising a probe and a folding card attached to the probe, such that a portion of the probe extends from the folding card when the folding card is in a first position. The device may be folded into a convenient size to carry in a health care practitioner's pocket, wallet, or purse, and the probe may be protected within the folding card when the folding card is folded in a certain position.

Folding card device for evaluating protective sensation

A surgical cutting device having a powered handpiece adapted to receive a cutting blade. The cutting blade is locked to the drive shaft by a locking ball holding member which is locked in place by a cylindrical cam ring which urges the balls of the locking device into corresponding notches in the blade. A second locking ball holding member is provided on the housing of the handpiece to lock the cylindrical cam ring itself. A blade guard extends from the cylindrical cam ring to produce a surgical cutting device having an improved safety feature which prevents its operation without the guard in proper position.

A display apparatus secured to a temple or bridge contacting portion of an eyewear, the apparatus including means for monitoring the wearer's heart rate, lap position, laps completed, time elapsed, etc. An image of the collected data is transmitted into the wearer's field of view by means of a fiber optic element and projected at a focal point within the focusing range of the wearer's eyes.

Multi-function display apparatus

An implant being securely fixed in a bone by a layer of plastic cement is removed by supplying a pressurized fluid to the interface between the cement and the implant.

Method for implant removal

The lens device includes a lens joined to a lens holder member, the lens holder member having a diverging wall portion that permits suction mounting of the lens device onto a substantially smooth surface. The lens is held by the lens holder member to permit a field of view through the lens and through any surface upon which the lens device is mounted. The lens device is thus conveniently mountable upon the lens of an eyeglass or goggle, the screen of a monitor or radar scope or any other device where it would be beneficial to magnify a selected field of view. Suction mounting of the lens device permits easy removal and relocation of such device on a selected surface or relocation onto an entirely different surface. The lens device is also combinable with an appliance such as a digital stopwatch to provide a module that is suction mountable onto a pair of goggles. A swimmer is thus enabled to keep track of elapsed time while swimming.

Lens device and method

An irrigation system for cooling a surgical cutting tool, cutting site and/or flushing debris from the cutting site during surgery includes a first conduit connected to a source of sterile irrigation fluid and a second conduit adapted to be supported on the cutting tool to deliver irrigation fluid to the cutting site. The irrigation system further includes a lightweight disposable pump assembly for pumping the sterile irrigation fluid from the fluid source through the first and second conduits to the cutting site. The disposable pump assembly includes a pump chamber that communicates with the first and second conduits and a flexible pump member rotatable in the pump chamber. The pump assembly and conduits are in a presterile condition to permit immediate use by a physician and are discarded after the surgical operation is completed.

Irrigation system for surgical procedures

The oral implant is in the shape of a cylinder with a flat proximal end and a rounded distal end. Projecting members are formed on the cylindrical surface that taper from the proximal end of the cylindrical body toward the distal end thereof. The projecting members are radially spaced, and in one embodiment have flutes formed on the tapered surface. A lateral through-hole is provided at the distal end of the cylindrical body. The proximal end includes a hexagonal-shaped recess for reception of a twisting tool. After the twisting tool is removed the hexagonal recess receives a dental prosthesis. Another embodiment of the oral implant includes radially spaced ridges that are longitudinally aligned with projecting members on quadrants of the cylindrical surface. Either embodiment of the implant member is installed by press-fitting the implant into a hole in the jawbone and then twisting the implant a predetermined amount to permit the projecting members and the ridges to breach into the bone thereby forming undercuts in the bone that rigidly lock the implant in position.

Oral implant

The adjustable support for a prosthetic tooth includes an abutment member having an opening for reception of a bolt member that engages with a nut member. The abutment member is sandwiched between a head portion of the bolt member and an enlarged collar portion of the nut member. The engaging surfaces between the head portion and the abutment member and between the abutment member and the enlarged collar portion of the nut member are of complementary shape with respect to each other to permit pivotal adjustment of the abutment member with respect to the bolt and nut members. The abutment member is thus pivoted to a desired position and the bolt and nut members are tightened to lock the abutment member in the desired position. A prosthetic tooth having an opening of complementary shape with respect to the abutment member engages the abutment member to assume the angular orientation of the abutment member. The adjustable support and prosthetic tooth are affixed in a foundation implant that is locked into the jawbone. The prosthetic tooth and the adjustable support are thus rigidly secured to the jawbone.

The preferred embodiment provides a stopwatch mounted in a lens, goggle, mask or shield for use by a swimmer or other goggle wearer to observe elapsed time during, or countdown time prior to, an activity.

Digital display for head mounted protection

The valve includes a housing with inlet and outlet members joined by a resilient flexible valve closure. An annular chamber that does not communicate with the inlet or outlet surrounds the valve closure. When a flow of fluid is desired through the valve closure, a pressurized fluid is introduced into the annular chamber to deform the valve closure enabling the closure to open. Reduction or elimination of the pressure for deforming the valve closure permits the valve closure to assume its normal closed position, thereby permitting a shut off of fluid flow. Variable flow rates can be accomplished by obtaining predetermined deformations of the valve closure corresponding to predetermined levels of the pressurizing fluid which cause such deformation.
