Multi-channel hydraulic control unit for an active vehicle suspension

An Active Roll Control System for a motor vehicle that utilizes small valves to control large flows. Flow is supplied by a hydraulic pump which is powered in some fashion by the motor vehicle. Flow is directed to the actuators by a three-position-four-way valve that is controlled by two pairs of small ABS style solenoid valves. This allows for a minimum of power to be supplied by the vehicle to operate the system. Also, this valve arrangement allows a desirable failure mode whereby hydraulic fluid is locked into the hydraulic actuators, there by locking in the anti-roll bar in case of a system failure.

Integrated control unit for an active roll control system for a vehicle suspension system

A microvalve having a generally planar plate valve body defining a chamber and a plate valve member movable in the chamber about a pivot axis that is perpendicular to the valve body to control the flow of a fluid through the valve body. The plate valve member defines a pair of opposite faces, a first duct therethrough provides fluid communication between the opposite faces to equalize fluid pressures acting on the opposite faces in the region of the first duct. The plate valve member also has a second duct therethrough that provides fluid communication between the opposite faces to equalize fluid pressures acting on the opposite faces in the region of the second duct. The first duct and the second duct are equidistant from the pivot axis.

Thermally actuated microvalve device

A coupling having slots for receiving drive tabs of an associated driving shaft and a driven shaft, wherein the tabs of the driving shaft and the driven shaft are tapered to militate against rotational play between the driving shaft and the driven shaft which results in undesirable wear and damage to the drive shafts and coupling.

A microvalve device for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit. The microvalve device comprises a body having a cavity formed therein. The body further has first and second pilot ports placed in fluid communication with the cavity. The body also has first and second primary ports placed in fluid communication with the cavity. Each port is adapted for connection with a designated fluid source. A pilot valve supported by the body is movably disposed in the cavity for opening and closing the first and second pilot ports. An actuator is operably coupled to the pilot valve for moving the pilot valve. A microvalve is positioned by the fluid controlled by the pilot valve. The microvalve is a slider valve having a first end and a second end. The slider valve is movably disposed in the cavity for movement between a first position and a second position. The first end of the slider valve is in fluid communication with the first and second pilot ports when the first and second pilot ports are open. The second end of the slider valve is in constant fluid communication with the first primary port. When moving between the first and second positions, the slider valve at least partially blocks and unblocks the second primary port for the purpose of variably restricting fluid flow between the primary ports.

A piston pump comprises cylinder attached within a cavity of a pump housing. An outlet check valve seat is defined about an outlet of the cylinder. A piston is slidably received in a bore of the cylinder and has a first passageway formed therein. A cylinder head encloses the outlet of the cylinder and defines a second passageway therein. The first passageway has an inlet in fluid communication with the cavity of the pump housing, and an outlet in fluid communication with a pumping chamber defined in the pump housing. A first spring retains the piston to the cylinder. A first check valve member is a ball retained near a valve seat formed in the first passageway of the piston by a disk spring, and allows fluid to flow only from the inlet to the outlet of the piston.

A microvalve device for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit. The microvalve device comprises a body having a cavity formed therein. An electronically controlled automatic transmission, comprising of an input shaft; an output shaft; a plurality of gears providing driving connection between the input shaft and the output shaft; one of a hydraulically operated brake band and a hydraulically operated clutch which is operable to effect a change in the gear reduction provided by the gears between the input shaft and the output shaft; a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid; and a microvalve device selectively operable to control passage of pressurized hydraulic fluid from the source to the one of a hydraulically operated brake band and a hydraulically operated clutch to operate the one of a hydraulically operated brake band and a hydraulically operated clutch.

Microvalve for electronically controlled transmission

The invention relates to a composite brake caliper and method for producing the same. The method for producing the composite brake caliper comprises the steps of: (a) providing a molding apparatus having at least a pair of mold sections, at least one of the pair of mold sections including at least one projection extending from a surface thereof; (b) providing at least one reinforced preform formed from at least a first material, the preform having at least one opening formed at least partially therein; (d) positioning the preform in the molding apparatus with the projection of the mold section extending into the opening of the preform so as to orient the preform in a predetermined position within the molding apparatus; and (e) casting a caliper body formed from a second material in situ therewith to produce the composite brake caliper.

Composite caliper for a disc brake assembly and method for producing same

A microvalve device includes a first plate, a second plate and a third plate. The second plate is connected between the first plate and the third plate. The second plate contains a stationary element and a moveable plate valve slider element. The slider element variably restricts the flow of a fluid through the microvalve device. The second plate defines a first supply port, an output conduit, and a return port. In a pressure increase position, the slider element allows the fluid to flow from the first supply port to the output conduit. In a pressure hold position, the slider element isolates the output conduit from both the first supply port and the return port. The pressure decrease position allows fluid to flow from the output conduit to the return port. Pressure from the output conduit acts against a first axial end face of the slider element. In a pressure regulating valve embodiment of the microvalve device, the second axial end face of the slider element (opposite the first axial end face) is acted upon by a spring, with the position of the slider element being determined by a balancing of the force exerted by the spring and the force exerted by the fluid acting against the first axial end face. In a proportional microvalve embodiment of the microvalve device, the second axial end face of the slider element (opposite the first axial end face) is acted upon by pressurized fluid in a control chamber, with the position of the slider element being determined by a balancing of the force exerted by the fluid acting against the first axial end face and the force exerted by the fluid acting against the second axial end face. Preferably, a buffer piston extends axially from the first axial end face.

A microvalve device for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit. The microvalve device comprises a body having a cavity formed therein. A pilot valve supported by the body is movably disposed in the cavity for opening and closing pilot ports formed in the body. A pilot operated microvalve is positioned by the pressure of the fluid controlled by the pilot valve.

Pilot operated microvalve device

A microvalve device for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit. The microvalve device includes a body defining a chamber, an inlet port and an outlet port. The inlet port is connected in fluid communication with the chamber and is adapted for connection with a first fluid source. The outlet port is connected in fluid communication with the chamber and is adapted for connection with a second fluid source. A check valve is movably disposed in the chamber for movement between a closed position and a fully opened position by differential pressure across the check valve. When the check valve is placed in the fully opened position, fluid is allowed to flow from the inlet port to the outlet port through the chamber. When placed in the closed position, the check valve restricts fluid from flowing between the inlet and outlet ports.

A vehicle hydraulic system is disclosed comprising a hydraulic fluid reservoir; a pressure force supplying pressurized hydraulic fluid to a discharge header; a fluid conduit between the discharge header and the reservoir; a back pressure valve operative in the fluid conduit to maintain a desired pressure in the discharge header; and a vehicle braking system having a hydraulically operated boost piston assembly for supplementing a force exerted by a vehicle operator to operate brakes of the vehicle braking system. The system further includes a boost pressure control valve responsive to an input from the vehicle operator for selectively directing pressured hydraulic fluid from the discharge header to the boost piston assembly and venting hydraulic fluid from the boost piston assembly to the reservoir.

Electronically controlled hydraulic brake boost pressure control system

A control valve for use in a variable assist power steering system of a vehicle having a valve element disposed within a valve chamber formed in a valve housing. The valve element is connected by a coupling to a proportional solenoid which is mounted upon the valve housing The solenoid includes an axially movable armature which is connected by a coupling to the valve element. The coupling transfers axial movement of the solenoid armature to the valve element. The coupling also is operable to minimize the transfer of transverse movement of the solenoid armature to the valve element.
