A process for skeletal isomerization of light normal C.sub.4-6 olefins to iso-olefins by contacting a hydrocarbon stream containing C.sub.4-6 normal olefins under isomerization conditions with a SSZ-32 zeolite catalyst.

Process for isomerization of normal olefin

A process is disclosed for removing residual sulfur from a hydrotreated naphtha feedstock. The feedstock is contacted with molecular hydrogen under reforming conditions in the presence of a less sulfur sensitive reforming catalyst to convert trace sulfur compounds to H.sub.2 S, and to form a first effluent. The first effluent is contacted with a solid sulfur sorbent to remove the H.sub.2 S and form a second effluent. The second effluent is then contacted with a highly selective reforming catalyst under severe reforming conditions. Also disclosed is a method using a potassium containing sulfur sorbent made from nitrogen-free potassium compounds.

Sulfur removal systems for protection of reforming crystals

A process for purifying alkyl sulfides by absorption of the organosulfur impurities on an absorbent. The absorber is a copper salt deposited on a high surface area support. The purified alkyl sulfide is useful as an extractant for palladium.

Purification of alkyl sulfides

A multi-stage catalytic reforming process using a catalyst having a high rhenium to platinum ratio in the first stage or stages and a catalyst having a still higher rhenium to platinum ratio for the last stage. The process comprises: (a) contacting a naphtha feed with a first stage catalyst comprising rhenium and platinum, and having a rhenium to platinum weight ratio of at least 1.7, under catalytic reforming conditions in one or more first reforming stages of a reforming unit to obtain intermediate reformate; and (b) contacting the intermediate reformate, under catalytic reforming conditions in a last stage of the reforming unit, with a last stage catalyst comprising rhenium and 0.2 to 2.0 weight percent platinum, and having sufficient rhenium so that the last stage catalyst has at least 0.5 weight percent rhenium beyond that necessary to attain a 1.7 rhenium to platinum weight ratio.

Multi-stage catalytic reforming with high rhenium content catalyst

This invention relates to the separation of lithium from lithium-containing materials, primarily ores such as hectoritic montmorillonite, having about 0.02 to 2.0 percent lithium by weight. The process comprises reducing the particle size of the material to less than about 500 microns; slurrying the particles with an aqueous base consisting of carbonates or hydroxides of sodium or potassium; heating the resulting slurry at about 50.degree. to 125.degree. C. for from about 0.1 to 6 hr; separating the solids and acidifying the solids with aqueous sulfuric acid to a pH value of about 0 to 2; heating the acidified slurry at about 50.degree. to 125.degree. C. for about 0.5 to 10 hr; separating the residual solids from the aqueous phase; separating the liquid portion of the cooled slurry, which is treated with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide and then with sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate with heating to remove interfering alkaline earth metals, cooling and separating the aqueous phase followed by treatment with sufficient alkali carbonate to precipitate the lithium carbonate with filtering of the hot slurry to remove the lithium as solid lithium carbonate. Lithium and its compounds have a variety of uses ranging from a component of a lightweight electric storage battery to pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of depression and other diseases.

An improved catalyst, having a reduced fouling rate when used in a catalytic reforming process, said catalyst comprising platinum disposed on an alumina support wherein the alumina support is obtained by removing water from aluminum hydroxide produced as a by-product from a Ziegler higher alcohol synthesis reaction, and wherein the alumina is calcined at a temperature of 1100.degree.-1400.degree. F. so as to have a surface area of 165 to 215 square meters per gram.

Indigenous metal impurities in an oil are removed by contacting the oil with a novel solid consisting essentially of porous alumina containing a minor amount of phosphorus. The contacting is carried out under oil demetallizing conditions.

An improved reforming process is obtained using a catalyst containing platinum, rhenium and chloride disposed on a particulate support formed using alumina obtained by removing water from an aluminum hydroxide produced as a by-product of a Ziegler higher-alcohol synthesis, when the catalyst is prepared by calcining the alumina support at a temperature between 1000.degree. -1500.degree. F to provide a support having a surface area between 140-240 m.sup.2 /g, then impregnating a platinum compound and a rhenium compound into the calcined alumina in the presence of a sufficiently high concentration of chloride to obtain an impregnated composition, which, upon drying, contains at least 1.4 weight percent total chloride, and finally calcining the impregnated preparation to reduce the total chloride content of the final catalyst to less than 1.2 weight percent.
