Threaded connection with perturbed flanks

An expandable tubular connection includes a pin member and a box member. The pin member includes a pin thread formed on a small step and a large step and a first seal surface formed between the small step and the large step. The box member includes a box thread formed on a small step and a large step and a second seal surface formed between the small step and the large step. The pin thread and the box thread are wedge threads. Upon a selected make-up of the pin member with the box member a selected gap exists between the first seal surface and the second seal surface. The gap is selected such that, when plastically radially expanded by a selected amount, a seal is formed between at least a portion of the first seal surface and the second seal surface.

An electrically-insulative threaded connection includes a pin member having a pin thread and a box member having a box thread. An insulating composite layer is disposed between the pin thread and the box thread. The insulating composite layer includes an insulating fiber and insulating resin. The pin thread and the box thread are wedge threads. A method of making an electrically-insulative threaded connection includes forming a pin wedge thread on a pin member and winding a filament over the pin wedge thread. The filament is wetted with a resin, thereby forming a composite layer. The composite layer is cured and machined to mate with a box wedge thread.

A wedge-threaded tubular connection includes a pin member and a box member, wherein each of the pin and box members include an engaged thread area, and a clearance gap volume formed between corresponding roots and crests of the pin and box members and arranged along an axial length of the engaged thread area according to a distribution profile. The clearance gap volume distribution profile is configured having a greater clearance gap volume proximate a central portion of the engaged thread area and progressively less clearance gap volume towards each of the distal ends of the engaged thread area.

A threaded connection includes a pin member having a pin thread having a pin load flank and a pin stab flank. The threaded connection includes a box member having a box thread having a box load flank and a box stab flank. Upon make-up of the pin member with the box member, a contact stress results from engagement of the first wedge segment with the second wedge segment.

A threaded connection between adjacent tubular members includes a pin member providing an external wedge thread and a box member providing an internal wedge thread, wherein the internal wedge thread corresponds with the external wedge thread. Further, the threaded connection includes at least one interruption along a helical thread length of one of the external wedge thread and the internal wedge thread and at least two regions along an axial length of the threaded connection where the external wedge thread and the internal wedge thread form a thread seal.

Threaded connections including a pin member and a box member and are mismatched. The pin member and the box member have wedge threads formed thereon with a gap formed between pin and box load flanks and/or pin and box stab flanks of the threaded connection. The mismatch may comprise different flank angles and/or different flank profiles between corresponding flanks.
