A mesh network management resource receives connectivity status information indicating wireless connectivity amongst multiple wirelessly interconnected access points in a mesh network and multiple clients. Based on the received connectivity status information, the mesh network management resource allocates portions of wireless bandwidth in the mesh network to wirelessly communicate between a root access point in the mesh network and each of the multiple interconnected access points. The root access point transmits messages over the allocated portions of wireless bandwidth from the root access point through the multiple interconnected access points to the multiple clients. According to one configuration, the mesh network management resource allocates use of wireless bandwidth amongst the wirelessly interconnected access points in the mesh network based at least in part on class of service information assigned to different subscribers in the mesh network environment.

Resource allocation in a wireless mesh network environment

A wireless access point provides a subscriber access to use of a core network. Several techniques are implemented to build trust that the subscriber is connected with and using a safe wireless network. Additional techniques can be used to control use of services provided by the wireless access point.

Access control, establishing trust in a wireless network

A wireless access point may be openly accessible to public use. The wireless access point receives an association communication from a computer device to establish a wireless communication link with the wireless access point. The association communication can includes unique information such as vendor specific information associated with a network interface card in the computer device, an IP (Internet Protocol) network address assigned to the computer device, etc. The wireless access point establishes a wireless communication link between the wireless access point and the computer device. The wireless access point utilizes the unique information to verify authenticity of the request to terminate the wireless communication link. In a similar vein, a computer device can receive unique information associated with a wireless access point and use the unique information to verify authenticity of a request by the access point to terminate the wireless communication link.

Protection against illegitimate link termination in a wireless network

A power manager in a network monitors a set of multiple interconnected network elements for failures. During non-failing operation, the multiple interconnected network elements cooperatively communicate amongst each other to provide one or more computer devices connectivity to a core network. In response to detecting a failing network element in the set, the network power manager adaptively controls power settings of at least one non-failing network element in the set of multiple interconnected network elements. Via power control notifications, power settings of the non-failing network elements that depend on the particular failing network element can be reduced to save power in the network. Subsequent to correcting the failure, when the particular network element is functioning properly again, the network power manager notifies the non-failing network elements in the reduced power mode to switch back to a standard power mode and standard operational mode again.

Adaptive power control in a network

A transmitter device transmits data over a physical communication link to at least one destination. A monitor resource monitors a frequency band of signals on the physical communication link. At least a portion of the monitored frequency band in the physical communication link used to transmit the data is also allocated for transmissions of wireless communications in a vicinity of the physical communication link. The physical communication link may be damaged for any number of reasons such as a loose connector, rodent chewing on the physical communication link, etc. The damaged locations of the physical communication link are places where the wireless communications are more likely to couple onto the physical communication link and cause interference. In response to detecting presence of an interference signal in the monitored frequency band of the physical communication link, the monitor resource transmits one or more notifications.

Wireless signal interference mitigation in a network

A signal analyzer resource monitors a signal in a downstream channel of a shared physical communication link. In response to detecting presence of wireless interference coupling onto the signal received in the downstream channel, the signal analyzer resource communicates a feedback message to a management resource (or other suitable resource) over an upstream channel of the shared physical communication link. The message indicates the presence of the wireless interference. According to a more specific configuration, the signal analyzer resource can be configured to: detect a type of modulation used to modulate data on a signal received in a channel over a shared cable network; map the detected type of modulation to a corresponding set of configuration values; and utilize the corresponding set of configuration values as a basis to monitor and/or detect a presence of wireless interference on the channel. The signal analyzer resource can mitigate affects of interference.
