A system, apparatus and corresponding method by which to synchronize to a time reference a main module of a device&#x2014;a main module such as global positioning system (GPS) receiver&#x2014;using a cellular communication signal received by a cellular module also included in the device. To synchronize the main module to the reference time, the invention provides a method including the steps of: having the cellular module respond to the cellular communication signal by providing to a clock module of the main module a trigger pulse derived from the data component of the cellular communication signal, and also by providing to the main module information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time. The main module is then able to resolve a value for time based on the information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time and the trigger pulse.

Method, apparatus and system for GPS time synchronization using cellular signal bursts

Supporting a satellite based positioning

The invention relates to the acquisition of a code modulated signal, wherein a first set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a first replica code with different code phases and a second set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a second replica code with different code phases are available. In order to achieve a high sensitivity, results from both sets of correlation results are combined, wherein correlation results used in the combination are selected based on information on a relative difference between a correct code phase for both replica codes. Then, it is determined based on the combination whether at least one of the sets of correlation results comprises a correlation result representing the correct code phase for the first replica code or the second replica code, respectively.

Acquisition of a code modulated signal

For supporting a satellite based positioning of a mobile arrangement () with assistance data, a communication network converts parameters of a dedicated orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (), which dedicated orbit model is defined for a particular satellite based positioning system, into parameters of a common orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (). Alternatively or in addition, the network replaces a reference value that is based on a satellite based positioning system time in available parameters of an orbit model by a reference value that is based on a communication system time. After the parameter conversion and/or the reference value replacement, the parameters are provided as a part of assistance data for the satellite based positioning.

Supporting an assisted satellite based positioning

The invention relates to a method for attenuating interferences in a positioning receiver, wherein a signal transmitted by the satellites of a positioning system is received, and the received signal is amplified. In the positioning receiver a noise level of the received signal is determined, the existence of interferences is established on the basis of changes of the determined noise level, and the amplification is controlled on the basis of the noise level of the signal received otherwise than during interference. The invention also relates to an electronic device, wherein the method is applied, as well as to a program, with which the method can be implemented in connection with the positioning receiver.

Method for reducing the effect of interferences in a receiver and an electronic device

A method for positioning a wireless communication device includes storing position data relating to one or a plurality of reference areas to at least one database. It is examined which of said reference areas is located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device, and at least position data about the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device is retrieved for the wireless communication device. In order to perform the positioning, the method further includes selecting the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device as the default position of the wireless communication device.

In order to prevent an incorrect synchronization between a received code-modulated signal and an available replica code, partial correlations are performed between a respective subset of samples of the replica code and samples of the received code-modulated signal associated to the respective subset of samples of the replica code at a specific alignment between the received code-modulated signal and the replica code. Reception of a spread spectrum modulated signal

For processing a sequence of samples of a signal, it is assumed that the signal comprises a carrier that is modulated by a code composed of a sequence of chips. A method of wiping-off an influence by the carrier on the sequence of samples and downsampling the sequence of samples (step; step; step) is shown, as well as utilizing the downsampled sequence of samples as a new sequence of samples for further processing (step; step; step). Also shown are a corresponding processing component, a corresponding electronic device, a corresponding system, a corresponding software program code and a corresponding software program product.

Processing a sequence of samples of a signal using downsampling

A system architecture for a receiver to process multiple signals on a common carrier frequency from a satellite. The receiver is arranged such that the receiver receives input data transmitted from the satellite. A pilot signal is tracked from the input data using a correlation channel, and a data signal is tracked from the input data using a data code generator operatively connected to the correlation channel. In one embodiment of the invention, the data signal generator creates replica code for the data signal. In another embodiment of the invention, the system can switch between the data signal generator and pilot signal generator based upon the signal-to-noise ratio of the incoming signal.

System and method for providing optimized receiver architectures for combined pilot and data signal tracking

The present invention provides a method for a multi-path detection analysis and selectivity of CDMA signals using spread spectrum receivers using a correlation technique. The invention is based on determining by the spread spectrum receiver whether a distortion of a received radio frequency signal, caused by a multi-path component of said received signal, meets a predetermined condition using a pre-selected correlation analysis of said received signal. This invention is generally applicable to global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers and it is particularly useful in GNSS receivers, such as GPS (global positioning system) and Galileo receivers. The important goal of this invention is to provide a simple method for identifying signals that are corrupted by multi-path effects, and can be excluded from position calculation in the GNSS receivers.

Multi-path detection method for CDMA receivers

A positioning receiver is shown having one or more receiving channels for receiving a signal from a positioning station, a controlling element for controlling the reception of the signal from the positioning station, and a clock generator for generating a clock signal for said controlling element. The positioning receiver also has a sampler for taking samples at least first and second sampling rates, and a selector for selecting samples from the samples taken at the at least first and second sampling rates, to be used in the controlling element, for controlling signal reception. Positioning receiver

A method for positioning a wireless communication device includes storing position data relating to one or a plurality of reference areas to at least one data base. It is examined which of said reference areas is located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device, and at least position data about the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device is retrieved for the wireless communication device. In order to perform the positioning, the method further includes selecting the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device as the default position of the wireless communication device.

The invention relates to determining a correct code phase of a received, code modulated carrier signal using a correlation portion, a frequency compensation portion, a coherent memory and a non-coherent memory. In order to compensate for a code Doppler effect and/or a carrier Doppler drift effect, a mapping portion maps correlation values either to the coherent memory or to the non-coherent memory. Alternatively, the mapping portion maps correlation values stored in the coherent memory or in the non-coherent memory to new positions. The mapping depends on a frequency compensation applied by the frequency compensation portion and elapsed integration time, and/or on a drift of a frequency offset in correlation values output by the correlation portion.

Determination of a code phase

A method for performing reacquisition in a positioning receiver (PR) is described, in which at least one spread spectrum modulated signal is received. In the positioning receiver (PR), a reference signal is formed by using a reference code corresponding to the code used in the modulation of the signal to be received, and a correlation is made between the received signal and the reference signal. The correlation is made in at least a first and a second part, and different correlation times are used in the first part and in the second part. The invention also relates to an electronic device (ED) comprising a positioning receiver (PR) for performing this reacquisition method.
