Aspects of the present invention may be seen in a system and method for speeding up the processing of update packages by an update agent, by implementing at least a portion of the update agent in hardware. In an embodiment of the present invention, the update agent in hardware may process executable instructions in parallel.

Disclosed herein is an electronic device network. The network may include a plurality of servers and a plurality of an electronic devices communicatively coupled to at least one of the plurality of servers. The electronic device may be adapted to employ at least one of a plurality of update agents resident in the electronic devices to update one of software and firmware in the electronic devices. The electronic devices may also be adapted to provisioning the plurality of update agents with parameters and data used to facilitate update operations in the electronic device. The electronic device may support multiple update agents that are provisioned using OTASP or OTAPA or related techniques. During the provisioning of an electronic device, one or more update agents resident in the electronic device may also be provisioned.

A device and method supporting the identification and correction of firmware and/or software errors is described. Upon the occurrence of a firmware/software error or exception, an embodiment in accordance with the present invention may gather parameters for identifying the error or exception, and the execution environment in which the error occurred, and may communicate the parameters or an identifier to a server, to retrieve update information for correcting the firmware/software error or exception. The execution environment may be single or multi-threaded, and may be a java virtual machine. The device may restart/reboot during the update process, and may log an error if update information is not available to correct the error or exception. The device may communicate the error log information to the server via the communication network. The communication network may be a wireless network.

Software self-repair toolkit for electronic devices

A communication network comprising a carrier network with a service coordinator is capable of acting upon SIM card change information detected by an agent located in the electronic devices used in the communication network. In general, the agent in electronic devices facilitates the determination of SIM Card changes in the electronic device. It also facilitates the selective reporting of such changes to the carrier network. In one embodiment, the communication network is capable of detecting SIM Card changes in the electronic device. In general, the carrier network determines updates to firmware, software, configuration etc. necessitated by the change in SIM card and selectively communicates it to the electronic device.
