An amplifier unit to be placed in an antenna mast and belonging to a two-way radio system. The amplifier unit comprises two front stages for implementing diversity, each front stage comprising a receiving branch with an amplifier and a transmitting branch including a transmit bandpass filter. In both front stages the output of the receiving branch and the input of the transmitting branch are coupled together and further to a base station (BT, BT) by an intermediate cable. There is at least one pair of antenna radiators. One radiator of the pair is coupled to the input of the receiving branch of the first front stage and the output of the transmitting branch of the second front stage, and the other radiator to the input of the receiving branch of the second front stage and the output of the transmitting branch of the first front stage. Then, the feedback path of the signal amplified in the receiving branch circulates for the part of both front stages via both radiators and the airspace. Because of isolation between the radiators, the attenuation of the feedback path increases, in which case the transmit bandpass filters can be made smaller and cheaper.

Masthead amplifier unit

A resonator is provided with a tuning element based on piezoelectricity. The piezoelectric basic element includes at least one piezoelectric layer and a metal layer. Such a basic element is first coated with a thin insulating layer and then with a good conductor. The thickness of the conductive coating is greater than the skin depth of a field corresponding to the operating frequency of the structure in the conductor. The tuning element formed in this manner is fastened on, e.g., some inner surface of the resonator cavity and acts to change the natural frequency of the resonator by electric control. When using the tuning element, no mechanical arrangement is required for moving the tuning element. Furthermore, the tuning element does not cause considerable dielectric losses nor intermodulation when being in a radiofrequency electromagnetic field, because the field cannot significantly penetrate through said conductive coating into the piezoelectric material.

Tuning element and tunable resonator

An arrangement for processing the antenna signal of a radio receiver and for leading it to low-noise amplifiers LNA of parallel amplifier branches. On the transmission path of the receiver from the antenna to the amplifiers LNA, functionally different elements are combined into physically united elements, such as the conductors () of the low-passing part of the antenna filter and the division conductors of the Wilkinson divider (), and the conductor () of the phase-shifter and the inductive part (L) of the LNA matching circuit. Each physically united element is a conductor, which is insulated from the ground plane by air or a low-loss dielectric material. The arrangement reduces the number of lossy parts between the antenna and the amplifiers, and placing these parts on an ordinary circuit board is also avoided. For these reasons, inferior noise values compared to the prior art can be allowed for each LNA. In addition, the matching of the input impedance of the LNA becomes more accurate when no discrete coil is needed in it.

Input arrangement for a low-noise amplifier pair

An arrangement for dividing the output signal of the antenna filter of a radio receiver to two different paths, such as two parallel low-noise amplifier branches of a base station. The divider circuit is physically integrated into a resonator-type antenna filter (RXF). This takes place by placing some conductors () of the divider inside some conductive part of the filter structure or the resonator cavity and by using the coupling conductor () of the output resonator as part of the input line of the divider at the same time. As the divider is used a Wilkinson divider. Due to the arrangement, a transmission line between the antenna filter and the divider becomes unnecessary, and the dielectric losses of the divider are reduced as compared to the prior art, in which case correspondingly inferior noise qualities can be allowed for low-noise amplifiers.
