A trailing end (') of a web in a web roll () is secured to a surface of the web roll in a slitter-winder () by attachment articles () which extend over a trailing end of the web on the roll surface. Each attachment article has an adhesive surface positioned on a path of movement of the web roll, facing toward the roll, and, while the roll is moved, it is attached on the surface of the web roll. An arrangement () for securing a trailing end of a web to the roll in a slitter-winder () has a roll handling system () to move the rolls () via a path, and an adhesive article distribution system () positioned to attachment the article, in which the two systems co-operate so that, as the rolls are moved, the attachment article is attached on the surface of the web roll.

An assembly for moving paper, board and cellulosic web rolls in a roll packaging system includes a plurality of roll handling stations incorporating at least one receiving station for the entry of rolls into the system, one wrapping station for winding at least one wrapper course on the periphery of the rolls, and at least one other station, and an indexing conveyor having a car for moving the rolls which is adapted to move synchronously into positions coinciding with each one of said roll handling stations. The car of the indexing conveyor is adapted to move on at least three different elevation levels named as a base elevation level, a first elevation level and a second elevation level. Additionally, at least a portion of the car coinciding with one station is on an elevated level in regard to the other parts of the car coinciding with the other stations.

Apparatus for transporting rolls during packing

A method for moving paper, board and cellulosic web rolls in a roll packaging system comprising a plurality of roll handling stations. The system imports at least three rolls () via a receiving station (), the rolls () are moved in the system by the use of a car () of an indexing conveyor, the car being adapted to move synchronously at each roll handling station, the car () is moved in a return motion when the indexing conveyor car () is in its lowermost position (elevation level &#x2212;), the rolls () are moved in synchronism forward to at least one station, e.g., the wrapping station () and to at least one other station (oror), and at least one roll () is moved at one station () in the direction of the roll's longitudinal axis. All rolls () in the system are moved at least once synchronously having the indexing conveyor car () driven into its uppermost position (second elevation level), and at least one roll () is moved at one station () having the indexing conveyor car () driven into a vertical position (elevation level) situated at any level between the uppermost and the lowermost elevation level.

The invention relates to a method and arrangement for placing end shields on the ends of paper, pulp, or board reels () in connection with packing. The arrangement comprises at least one first conveyor () for transporting the reels () in a direction parallel to their axes and at least one station () for placing at least one inner end shield on the end of a reel (). Next to the first conveyor () there are elements () for placing an inner end shield and after the station there are elements () for changing the direction of the axis of the reel (), relative to the first direction of travel, after the placing of the inner end shields, and elements for placing at least one outer end shield on the end of the reel. Further, the arrangement comprises elements () for making the direction of travel of the reel to deviate from the first direction of travel prior to the placing of the outer end shield, and end-shield collection stations, which are located within the operating area of one element placing the end shields, so that this element can transfer both inner and outer end shields for placing.

Method and arrangement for placing reel end shields

The invention relates to a method for moving paper, board and cellulosic web rolls in a roll packaging system having a plurality of roll handling stations and at least one indexing conveyor capable of operating on at least two elevation levels. According to the method, the rolls are moved in the packaging system by an indexing conveyor car, which is adapted to move synchronously at each roll handling station. The car is moved in a return motion when the indexing conveyor car is in its lowermost position. The position of the roll is measured. At least one roll is admitted onto the indexing conveyor car while having the car driven into its lowermost position (base elevation level) and the roll is transferred by the movement of the indexing conveyor car driven into its base elevation levelin such a fashion that the roll is positioned into an appropriate position in regard to the function of the roll handling stations for moving the rolls to the roll handling stations.

Method for centering of rolls

Method and arrangement for measuring the position of the end shields of a paper, pulp, or board reel relative to the grab () transporting it, when an end shield is attached to the grab (). During measurement, a detector () is moved along such a curve of a circle that can be assumed to intersect the curve of the circle described by the edge of the object. The angular position of the detector () is measured using the curve of the circle over which it travels and the intersection points (x, z; x, z) of the curve traveled by the detector () and the edge of the object are detected. The location of the center point (x, z) of the object is calculated on the basis of a) the radius of the circle traveled by the detector and the location (xm, zm) of the center point of the circle, b) the location (xt, zt) of the tool point, c) the assumed radius of the object, and d) the locations (x, z; xz) of the detected intersection points. Finally, the position of the center point (x, z) of the object in the set of co-ordinates of the grab is calculated.

Method and arrangement for measuring the position of a circular object

A method and apparatus for determining the position, relative to the grab () transporting them, of the end heads used in packing paper, cellulose, and board rolls, when the end head is attached to the grab (). When measuring, a detector () is transported along such a circular curve, which is assumed to be intersected by the circular curve defined by the edge of the end head. the angle position of the detector () on the circular curve of its path is measured and the intersection points (x, z; x, z) of the curve travelled by the detector () and the edge of the head are detected. The position of the centre point (x, z) of the end head is calculated on the basis of (a) the radius of the circle travelled by the detector and the position of the centre point (xm, zm) of the circle, (b) the position (xt, zt) of the grab's tool point, (c) the assumed radius of the end head, and (d) the positions (x, z; x, z), of the detected intersection points. Finally, the position of the centre point (x, z) of the end head is calculated in the set of coordinates of the grab.
