In a first embodiment, when an Activate PDP Context Request message is forwarded to a Service GPRS Support Node (SGSN), the SGSN creates a Create PDP Context Request message and forwards it to a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN). In response to the Create PDP Context Request forwarded by the SGSN, the GGSN creates a Create PDP Context Response message. When a PDP context is created by the GGSN, the GGSN associates a Globally Unique Charging Identification (GCI) with the PDP context. Then, the Create PDP Context Response including the GCI is forwarded to the SGSN. The GCI is sent from the SGSN to the UE and from the UE to the CSCF. In a second embodiment, the GCI is sent from the SGSN or the GGSN directly to the Call State Control Function (CSCF). Sending the GCI can be performed either autonomously or based on a request from the CSCF. In either embodiment, the CSCF can send the GCI to a second network which performs processing, such as billing, from data collected from call detail records associated with the GCI.

Common charging identifier for communication networks

A communication system can include a network having a first network access point and a second network access point and being capable of carrying data between the first network access point and the second access point via, for example, a packet-switched bearer and a circuit-switched bearer. The communications system can also include a first terminal configured to connect to the first network access point and a second terminal configured to connect to the second network access point. Each terminal can be capable of simultaneously supporting a packet-switched connection and a circuit-switched connection with the other terminal via the network as a single logical communication arrangement.

Circuit-switched and packet-switched communications

The present invention proposes a method for performing a communication between two terminal equipments (TE, TE) via at least one communication network (NW, NW), said method comprising the steps of establishing (S) a first connection for a communication signal (V/S) between the two terminal equipments, detecting (S) a connection changing condition, and, if said connection changing condition is detected, dividing (S) said communication signal at least into a first signal component (V) and a second signal component (S) and establishing (S) at least one second connection, said first signal component being transmitted via the first connection and said second signal component being transmitted via the second connection. Method and device for handling a multimedia call

Forward/Backward Call Indicators and the Progress Indicator (PI) of ISUP messages are used in call control signals, such as for setting up a mobile multimedia call, to indicate the involvement of a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) terminal. Either terminal of an end-to-end connection can initiate the call and likewise either can respond to the call control signals initiated by the other terminal to immediately recognize the unambiguous fact that a PSTN terminal is involved in the call and to immediately respond by correctly setting up an appropriate and compatible communication format.
