Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for controlling power usage in radio access networks. A central unit may be configured to receive, from an element management system, one or more first messages indicating power saving policies. The central unit may determine, based on the power saving policies, an idle period, and may send, to a distributed unit, a second message indicating the idle period. The distributed unit may activate, for the idle period, a power saving mode of the distributed unit.

Apparatus and method for allocating resources for coordinated transmissions from multiple cells

A method of exchanging data in a communications network is provided. A control channel channelization code is assigned for transmitting user specific data channel allocation information to a particular mobile station (MS). The data channel allocation information indicates which part of the transmission time interval (TTI) available for data can be used by that particular MS. The control channel channelization code is shared in a TDMA fashion between the MSs during the TTI in a proportion equal to that in which the data channel channelization code is shared between the MSs such that each MS is allocated a share of the control channel channelization code in that part of the TTI. The control channel channelization code is then transmitted in a part of the TTI corresponding to that in which the data channel channelization code is transmitted for a particular MS.

A communications system where data blocks from a communications device are received at least in a serving site over a wireless interface. The serving site typically checks whether data blocks have been correctly received and sends acknowledgement information to the communications device accordingly. An assisting site may also receive the data blocks and send information indicating whether data blocks have been correctly received in the assisting site. In this case, the serving site may request erroneously received information from the assisting site. Alternatively, the assisting site may send information indicating erroneous reception of data blocks in response to noticing a data block sent by the communications device. As a further alternative, the assisting site may be synchronized with the data blocks sent by the communications device and send quality information relating to the wireless interface between the communications device and the assisting site to the serving site.

Processing of uplink data in a communications system

Apparatus, methods and computer program products in a wireless communications system provide an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) for use by user equipment operating in the wireless communications system for use in conjunction with the random access procedure. A method, an apparatus and a communication system for collision detection for a random access procedure for an uplink data channel. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a module configured to transmit a data transmission on the uplink data channel, and an uplink scheduling and signal generating module configured to select random access parameters for a random access procedure and schedule the data transmission using the random access parameters for the random access procedure. The uplink scheduling and signal generating module is also configured to interrupt the data transmission after a predetermined time interval if the apparatus does not receive a permission signal from a network element during the predetermined time interval.
