The invention improves control of wear and tear of the elevators in an elevator group having a plurality of elevators and at least one group control unit. The actual usage of each elevator is recorded, and the group control unit executes at least one allocation algorithm for selecting which elevator of the elevator group is used to serve a call. The allocation algorithm compares the actual usage of at least two elevators against respective target usages and selects the elevator having its actual usage most deviating from the target usage to serve an outstanding call. With the invention, the wear and tear of elevators may be balanced, or certain elevators may be set to reach the end of the maintenance period sooner.

An elevator system includes at least one shuttle elevator and at least two local elevators, the elevator cars of which are arranged to travel in the same elevator hoistway such that they can serve at least one shared transfer floor of a transfer level. The control system of the elevator system receives destination calls given from a destination call appliance, forms a plurality of route alternatives and allocates a destination call to one or more elevators by selecting the best route alternative. When allocating a destination call, the control system takes into account that the elevator cars of the local elevators that travel in the same elevator hoistway cannot simultaneously be at a shared transfer floor in cases in which the route alternative includes a part-trip with a local elevator and a change of elevator at a shared transfer floor.

A method and apparatus for verifying destination calls needed in an elevator system. In the method a person having entered a destination call is identified first on the floor level outside the elevator and again in the elevator car allocated to the person. The destination floor call received from a destination call device as well as starting floor information obtained from a detector used to identify the person having entered the call are transmitted to the elevator control system, which, based on the destination call, allocates an elevator to the person having entered the call. If the system identifies the person having entered the call when the person is in the elevator car, then the destination call is acknowledged in the system as executed. On the other hand, if the person having entered the call is not identified in the elevator car allocated to him/her, then the previously entered destination call is kept valid and a new elevator is allocated to the person having entered the call.

With this arrangement, a higher torque is generated by the drive machine as compared to conventional solutions. A method and an apparatus for damping the vibrations of an alternating current motor is provided. The motor is supplied from an alternating current source with a supply voltage whose frequency is the basic frequency. Additionally the motor is fed with a second voltage having a frequency equal to the basic frequency multiplied by the quantity 2*m*q&minus;1. In the equation, m is the number of the phases of the motor and q is the number of slots per phase.

A procedure and apparatus for the measurement of elevator load uses a load measuring apparatus. The elevator comprises an elevator car (17) travelling along guide rails (2) in an elevator shaft, a counter-weight (20), a hoisting machinery (18, 19), a control unit, and hoisting ropes (11) attached at least by one end to an anchorage (21) in the elevator shaft. The load measuring apparatus (16) comprises a strain gauge (15) which outputs an electric signal corresponding to the load. The load measuring apparatus (16) is attached in conjunction with the anchorage (21) of the hoisting rope ends to a fixed place in the elevator shaft.

The stator disc (11) of a disc motor type elevator machinery has a cuplike or ring-shaped annular cavity (20). The stator (9) is attached to one of the walls of the cavity. The traction sheave (4) is attached to the rotor disc (14) on the opposite side relative to the stator core packet (12) of stampings. The diameter of the traction sheave is smaller than that of the stator core packet (12). A sealing (24) is provided between at least one (22) of the cavity (20) walls and the rotor disc (14) to block the access of external particles into the rotor and stator.
