A connector assembly for mating with a pluggable module includes a receptacle assembly for receiving the pluggable module and an interface electrical connector defining a back of the receptacle assembly. The interface electrical connector is configured to mate with the pluggable module. A guide rail defines a side of the receptacle assembly. The guide rail is configured to guide the pluggable module within the receptacle assembly. The guide rail has a rail body having a cavity and the rail body having a side wall opening open to the cavity. A latch assembly is received in the cavity. The latch assembly includes a latch movable between a latched position and an unlatched position. The latch is configured to extend through the side wall opening to engage the pluggable module when the latch is in the latched position. The latch assembly further includes an actuator that forces the latch from the latched position to the unlatched position.

Connector assemblies having guide rails with latch assemblies

A transceiver assembly includes a receptacle guide frame configured to be mounted to a host circuit board, where the receptacle guide frame has a front being open to an interior space, and where the receptacle guide frame is configured to receive a pluggable module through the front. A receptacle connector is received within the interior space of the receptacle guide frame at a rear of the receptacle guide frame. The receptacle connector includes contacts having contact tails configured to be mounted to a circuit board. The contacts have retention sections positioned at a predetermined location relative to the contact tails, and the contacts have mating sections configured for mating with a mating connector. A housing holds the contacts and has a front and a rear with a cavity at the front being configured to receive the mating connector. The housing has a shelf at the rear. A stuffer bar is separately provided from the housing and securely coupled to the rear of the housing. The stuffer bar is received within the retention sections of the contacts and engages the contacts to hold the contacts against the shelf such that the contact tails are aligned with one another.

A receptacle connector includes a housing having a front, a rear, and a cavity configured to receive a mating connector through a slot at the front of the housing. A plurality of contacts are loaded into the cavity of the housing through the rear of the housing, and the contacts have channel portions aligned with one another. A retention plug is separately provided from the housing and securely coupled to the rear of the housing. The retention plug is received within the channel portions of the contacts and engages the contacts to hold the contacts within the cavity.

Receptacle connector for a transceiver assembly

An electrical connector module configured to form a communicative connection with a host device is provided. The module includes a housing that is configured to be inserted into a receptacle of the host device. The housing extends substantially in an axial direction and includes a surface. The module also includes an actuating member that is slidably coupled to and movable along the surface of the housing from a locked position to a disengaged position. The module includes a spring member that is positioned on the actuating member and configured to exert a force against the housing and the actuating member. The spring member is biased in order to maintain the actuating member in the locked position.

Electrical connector assembly having a release mechanism

A receptacle assembly that is coupled to a host system and configured to receive an electrical component is provided. The receptacle assembly includes a guideframe having a front end, a back end, and a passage that extends therebetween. The guideframe is configured to receive the electrical component and includes a rear panel that is proximate to the back end and a side panel that has a support member extending therefrom. The receptacle assembly also includes a light pipe structure that has a light pipe that extends alongside the guideframe from the front end to the back end. The light pipe includes a rearward end portion that is configured to receive a status indication from the host system. The light pipe structure is directly engaged to the support member and the rearward end portion is directly engaged to at least one of the side panel and the rear panel.

A receptacle for a pluggable module includes an electrically conductive housing having connection members which are configured to electrically connect the housing to a circuit board. The housing has a cavity and an open front for receiving the module into the cavity. The housing has a resilient latch tab that cooperates with a latching member on the module to secure the module in the cavity. The latch tab is electrically conductive and is integrally formed with the housing.

Pluggable module and receptacle

A receptacle for receiving a module and electrically connecting said module to a host circuit board mounted within a chassis of a host system, said chassis having a bezel opening which has an offset a certain distance above said host circuit board: (a) a housing having a front, a back wall, a top wall, a bottom wall, and side walls and defining a cavity for receiving a module, the bottom wall having a bottom opening to receive a receptacle connector, the front having a front opening to receive the module, the walls comprising a conductive material; (b) a plurality of elongated members extending down from the housing past the bottom wall and adapted for electrical connection to a host circuit board such that the walls are electrically connected to the host circuit board; and (c) at least one standoff extending down from the housing, the standoff being more toward the front of the housing than the rear, when the housing is mounted to the host circuit board, the standoff contacts the circuit board and causes the front of the housing to be raised above the rear of the housing, the front of the housing being raised above the host circuit board by a distance approximately the same as that of the offset.

A receptacle for a pluggable module includes a housing having a front, a back wall, a top wall, a bottom wall, and side walls and defining a cavity for receiving a module. The bottom wall has a bottom opening to receive a receptacle connector, and the front has a front opening to receive the module. The walls of the housing are made from a conductive material. A plurality of elongated members extend down from the housing past the bottom wall. The elongated members are adapted for electrical connection to a host circuit board such that the walls of the housing are electrically connected to the host circuit board.

Improved electrical connectors and an improved technique for mounting metal contacts in an electrical connector. Such a technique employs overlapping, staggered arrays of forked electrical contacts in connector channels which engage corresponding blade contacts in a mating connector. The blades are inserted between prongs of the forked contacts. In the preferred embodiment, the electrical connector has an insulating housing having two parallel arrays of linearly aligned, offset, overlapping channels extending inwardly through a front of the housing. Each of the channel arrays extend inwardly through to two arrays of channels at a rear of the first housing. A forked metallic contact having a planar base, a pair of parallel and coplanar prongs at one of the ends separated by a gap, is mounted in each of the front channels such that the prongs from each forked metallic contact is positioned in one of the channels of the rear arrays of channels. A second housing is mated with the first housing. The second housing has an array of linearly aligned electrical contact blades extending out of the second housing. Each blade being positioned between the prongs of one of the forked electrical contacts within a channel of the rear arrays of channels.

Multiple circuit fork contact connector

A cable bend controller (50) comprising a relatively rigid member includes a body section (52) having first and second cable-engaging sections (56,60) at opposing ends thereof. The first and second cable-engaging sections (56) are securable to a cable at a first and second spaced apart locations. The said body section (52) is curved about a preselected radius such that said first cable-engaging section (56) is oriented at a substantial angle to said second cable-engaging section, (60) the body section thereby defining an externally arcuate concave cable-engaging surface (54). Upon fastening the first and second cable-engaging sections (56,60) to the cable (42), cable (42) is required to assume a bend to lie along said externally arcuate concave cable-engaging surface (54).

Cable bend controller

A right-angle coaxial electrical connector (22) mountable to a circuit board includes a housing (24) having a plurality of contact-receiving passageways (32) and at least two coaxial contacts (36, 38) disposed in the same column defining a stacked configuration. Each coaxial contact (36, 38) includes an inner terminal and an outer conductor, the inner terminal including a right angle body portion (46) extending outwardly of the housing (24) and concluding in a first connecting portion (44) adapted for mounting to the circuit board. A metal shell (64) having two interlocking halves joinable at opposed assembly faces is disposed over the outwardly extending body portion (46) of the inner terminal thereof and engageable with the outer conductor for connection to ground. In one embodiment, the inner terminal is comprised of two terminal subassemblies (40, 52). As an alternative, the connector housing (222) could be used with an intermixture of board mountable contacts (36, 38) and cable terminated contacts (235).

Modular right angle board mountable coaxial connector

An environmentally, sealed, feedthrough connector of the type that may be used for externally accessing an outdoor TV line amplifier. The connector includes a cylindrical housing having an insert molded contact centrally disposed therein and a deformable O-ring about the insert molded contact. The connector is assembled under an axially compressive force which deforms the O-ring into sealing engagement with the internal wall of the housing.

Sealed coaxial feedthrough connector

Invention is directed to an improved, squeeze-to-release latching mechanism for a pair of intermatable transmission connectors, such as electrical or fiber optic connector assemblies, where access to the sides of the connectors may be limited, thereby preventing a traditional manual unmating thereof. The connectors typically comprises a plug consisting of a housing having top and bottom surfaces, where such housing supports a first transmission component, and a receptacle supporting a second transmission component, where the plug includes a pair of cantilevered flexible arms engagable with complementary latching projections on the receptacle. The arms have exposed intermediate portions manually movable toward one another, such as by squeezing, to disengage the latching projections from the flexible arms. The improved feature hereof is the provision of each intermediate portion having a pair of wing extensions directed toward the top and bottom surfaces of the plug housing, where the ends of the extensions are laterally turned to lie essentially parallel with a respective top or bottom surface. By the construction of this U-configured intermediate portion, the flexible arms may be grasped diagonally and moved toward another to effect an unmating of the plug from the receptacle.

Latching system for intermatable transmission connectors

This invention relates to the field of communication equipment, such as cellular phones, but more particularly to a switch connector to allow for switching from one antenna, i.e. internal, to another, i.e. external. The switch connector comprises first and second intermatable, generally circular connector members, where the first connector member comprises a metallic shell having a dielectric insert therein, where the insert includes a central through cavity, and a pair of formed, electrical, spring contact arms arranged to electrically interconnect in a resiled condition. The second connector member comprises a metallic shell having a dielectric insert therein, where the insert includes a central through hole for receiving a single formed contact arm having a mating end supported by the insert. As the connector members are brought into mating engagement, with the respective shells in electrical contact, the end of the contact arm of the second connector member effects a disconnection of the contact arms of the first connector while electrically connecting with one of the contact arms.

Internal/external antenna switch connector

This invention relates to a latching system for a pair of intermatable electrical connectors, such as a plug and receptacle, which incorporates a mechanism for unlatching same by the application of a maximum predetermined separating force, such as may be the result of an accident, to the plug and receptacle. The system comprises a first electrical connector having a pair of flexible arms projecting axially therefrom, where the free ends of the arms include slot means for engaging complementary arms within the second electrical connector. The second electrical connector includes a forward ramp surface against which the flexible arms initially ride to effect mating of the connectors, a rearward surface slightly angled, i.e. on the order of about 4.degree. to 10.degree., from a base toward the ramp surface, and a metal spring arm mounted within the second electrical connector in close proximity to the base of the rearward surface. In the mated condition the spring arm engages the slot means. While a manually operated mechanism is provided to effect unmating, a safety system is included to prevent damage due to forces being applied thereto. For example, to effect unmating a maximum predetermined separating force may be applied therebetween causing the spring arm to flex to a position near the rearward surface at a critical release angle to thereby release the free end from its respective spring arm.
