An improved process for recovering hydrocarbons from an inlet inert gas-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is provided. The inlet mixture is caused to flow through a first bed of solid adsorbent whereby hydrocarbon vapors are adsorbed on the bed and a residue gas stream comprised of substantially hydrocarbon-free inert gas is produced. The hydrocarbon-free inert gas is vented and a second bed of solid adsorbent having hydrocarbon vapors adsorbed thereon is evacuated with an ejector operated by a motive liquid. A major portion of the hydrocarbon vapors is desorbed from the bed and an inert gas and hydrocarbon-rich vapor mixture commingled with the motive liquid is produced. The inert gas and hydrocarbon-rich vapor mixture is separated from the motive liquid and conducted to a point of additional processing or disposal. The flow pattern of the inlet inert gas-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is periodically changed whereby when the bed through which the inlet inert gas-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is flowing becomes loaded, the inlet inert gas-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is caused to flow through the bed which has just been evacuated and the bed loaded with adsorbed hydrocarbon vapors is caused to be regenerated.

Process for recovering hydrocarbons from inert gas-hydrocarbon vapor mixtures

An improved process for recovering one or more condensable compounds from inert gas-condensable compound vapor mixture is provided. The inert gas-condensable compound vapor mixture is flowed through a first bed of solid adsorbent whereby the condensable compounds are removed from the mixture and a residue gas stream comprised of substantially condensable compound-free inert gas is produced and disposed of, e.g., vented to the atmosphere. A second bed of solid adsorbent is evacuated by vacuum pumping using a cooled liquid seal vacuum pump. As the resulting inert gas-condensable compound vapor mixture is contacted with the cooled seal liquid of the liquid seal vacuum pump, a major portion of the condensable compounds are condensed. The condensed compounds are recovered and a portion thereof are cooled and recycled as cooled seal liquid for the vacuum pump.

Process for recovering condensable compounds from inert gas-condensable

An improved process for recovering hydrocarbons from an air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture such as the mixture of air and vaporized light hydrocarbon compounds expelled as a result of loading gasoline, benzene or the like into storage tanks and tank trucks. The air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is caused to flow through a bed of solid adsorbent whereby the hydrocarbons are removed from the mixture and a residue gas stream comprised of substantially hydrocarbon-free air is produced. The substantially hydrocarbon-free air is vented to the atmosphere and a second bed of solid adsorbent having hydrocarbons adsorbed thereon is subjected to conditions which cause desorption of the hydrocarbons and thereby regeneration of the bed. The regeneration of the bed is accomplished by evacuating the bed by means of liquid seal pump vacuum pumping whereby a major portion of the hydrocarbons are desorbed therefrom and subsequently subjecting the bed to further evacuation by both positive displacement booster pump vacuum pumping and by liquid seal pump vacuum pumping whereby additional hydrocarbons are desorbed therefrom.

Process for recovering hydrocarbons from air-hydrocarbon vapor mixtures

Apparatus for recovering hydrocarbons from an air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture of the type including a pair of alternatively used carbon bed adsorbers which are used to remove hydrocarbon vapors from the mixture and which are desorbed of hydrocarbons by subjecting the beds alternatively to vacuum regeneration using a vacuum pump the output of which is passed through an absorber using liquid gasoline as the absorbent liquid. The efficiency of the process is increased by interrupting the flow of the absorbent liquid during the initial period of the regeneration during which period the hydrocarbon vapor content of the mixture is low due to the fact that a substantial vacuum is required to separate the hydrocarbons from the carbon bed.

Process and apparatus for removing hydrocarbons from air-hydrocarbon

A process and apparatus for recovering hydrocarbons from an air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture such as the mixture of air and vaporized light hydrocarbon compounds expelled as a result of loading gasoline or the like into storage tanks, tank cars and tank trucks. The air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is caused to flow through a bed of solid adsorbent whereby the hydrocarbons ar removed from the mixture and a residue gas stream comprised of substantially hydrocarbon-free air is produced. The substantialy hydrocarbon-free air is vented to the atmosphere and while the first bed is removing hydrocarbons from the air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture, a second bed of solid adsorbent having hydrocarbons adsorbed thereon is simultaneously regenerated by evacuating the bed with vacuum pumping and the air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture produced in the regeneration of the bed is contacted with a liquid absorbent whereby a major portion of the hydrocarbons are absorbed therefrom and recovered. The beds of solid adsorbent are cooled, at least while the air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture is flowing therethrough and hydrocarbons are being adsorbed on the bed, to prevent the beds from overheating due to side exothermic reactions of hydrocarbons and/or impurities contained in the air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture with air and/or the solid adsorbent. Apparatus for carrying out the process of the present invention is also provided.

The air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture produced in the regeneration of the beds is contacted with a liquid absorbent whereby a major portion of the hydrocarbons are absorbed therefrom and recovered.

Process for recovering hydrocarbons with air-hydrocarbon vapor mixtures

The first portion is heated by passing it in heat exchange relationship with a seal liquid used in a vacuum pump which effects the vacuum pumping of the adsorbent beds. Apparatus for carrying out the process of the invention is also provided.
