An end-user can input a correction to a map error, directly on the device. The device is then able to use the correction without external processing of the correction. Hence, it is no longer necessary for an end-user to simply report errors to the map vendor over a web link, then wait for that map vendor to verify the error, update its maps and finally supply the end-user with updates&#x2014;a cycle that can take months and sometimes years to complete. Instead, the navigation device can use the correction immediately. End-users can also share corrections with other end-users and also with a shared remote server that aggregates, validates and distributes correction.

Method of creating map corrections for use in a navigation device

A vehicle request management system having a serverarranged to communicate with a plurality of vehicle requesting devicesand a plurality of vehicles, each being equipped with a devicehaving route planning and navigation functionality. Upon receipt of a vehicle request, the serverselects a suitable vehicleand determines the route that the vehicle should travel to the pick-up location and then onto the drop-off location. The serverreceives updates as to the position of the selected vehicleas it completes the request, and uses data associated with the calculated route and the position of the selected vehicleto provide enhanced functionality.

A portable navigation device is set out for calculating fuel related parameters and returning related data to the user of the device. The related data may include fuel cost of a particular calculated route. Additional data may include particular displays of information including a theoretical calculated volumetric amount of fuel used by a vehicle in traveling along a calculated route before, during or after completion of travel. Other displayed data includes a theoretical calculated financial cost of fuel used by the vehicle in traveling along the calculated route before, during or after completion of travel. Still further displayed data may include an optimal calculated route chosen from many possible calculated routes, the optimization occurring on account of the relative fuel cost of each of the calculated routes.
