The invention is a hermaphroditic modular connector. More specifically, the connector comprises a two-part modular housing which snaps together and which upon snapping together, effects connection of a twisted wire pair cable to a pair of insulation displacement contacts held within one part of the housing in a snap engagement by an insulator also in snap engagement held within the one part of the housing. Engaging extensions tabs project from the front of the connector in a manner such that the connector can be connected to a like connector without requiring additional parts or modification.

Shielded modular connector for use with shielded twisted pair cable

A set of three annular ribs (44,46,48) disposed annularly around a crimp sleeve (28) are crimped radially inward about a coaxial cable (10) having a forward end portion (20) of its cable braid (16) exposed and folded backwardly, the ribs when crimped inwardly providing cable retention, electrical circuit path between the sleeve and braid, and in a moisture seal adjacent the rearward end face (38) of the sleeve.

One-piece crimp-type connector and method for terminating a coaxial cable

A termination system in an electrical connector for coupling a coaxial cable to a terminal member. A strain relief component includes a crimpable portion for clamping onto the insulation surrounding the conductor of the coaxial cable and an outwardly projecting portion for capturing the drain wire of the cable. The strain relief component is readily applicable for coupling a generally flat undercarpet coaxial cable in a circular connector. A circular clamp nut holds the strain relief component in the connector with the conductor terminated to the terminal member and the drain wire in engagement with the housing of the connector. An adapter is provided between the strain relief component and the circular clamp nut for adapting the flat configuration of the cable to the circular configuration of the clamp nut and connector.

Coaxial cable termination

The invention relates to a terminating connector for use with individual conductors of a shielded coaxial type flat ribbon cable assembly. A bushing is threaded onto the outer sheath of the individual conductors and holds a drain wire which is connected to a shield of the individual conductors between the bushing threads and the outer sheath of the conductor. The bushing is then secured to a shielding housing by means of a securing assembly with the shielding housing including a central contact in insulative isolation therefrom and contacting the central conductor of the conductor. Locking means serve to engage a like locking assembly of a corresponding connector to provide a tight secure shielded connection between the individual conductors of the flat ribbon cable and equipment or other like individual conductors of flat ribbon cable.

An electrical connector includes a connector body having a U-shaped alignment cavity configured for snugly receiving a coaxial cable and an elongate contact extending into the cavity from a point disposed along the base thereof, the contact being adapted for piercing an intact portion of a coaxial cable received within the alignment cavity for making electrical connection with the central conductor of the cable. A pair of additional contact members extend into the alignment cavity and are adapted for piercing intact portions of the coaxial cable for making electrical connection with the conductive braid encircling the central conductor. Movement of the central conductor away from the elongate contact is inhibited by a cable piercing head of the contact and can be further precluded by a plunger which abuts the central conductor directly opposite the elongate contact.

Coaxial tap connector

An electrical connector includes a connector body having a U-shaped alignment cavity configured for snugly receiving a coaxial cable and an elongate contact member extending into the cavity from a point disposed along the base thereof, the contact member being adapted for piercing an intact portion of a coaxial cable received within the alignment cavity for making electrical connection with the central conductor of the cable. A pair of additional contact members extend into the alignment cavity and are adapted for piercing intact portions of the coaxial cable for making electrical connection with the conductive braid encircling the central conductor.

A connector for a cable having an inner element. The connector includes a support member having a cable-receiving opening at one end thereof. The support member has a passageway extending therethrough which communicates with the cable-receiving opening. The connector also includes a terminating member disposed within the passageway in the support member. The terminating member has an inner element-receiving opening at one end thereof which communicates with the cable-receiving opening. The connector further includes means for securing the inner element within the inner element-receiving opening in the terminating member. The securing means is adapted to freely admit the inner element into the inner element-receiving opening upon initial insertion of the cable into the cable-receiving opening in the support member. Additionally, the securing means is responsive to further insertion of the cable into the cable-receiving opening to secure the inner element within the inner element-receiving opening in the terminating member.

Contact assembly incorporating retaining means

A coaxial connector for a coaxial cable of the type having an inner conductor encircled by an annular insulating layer, an outer conductor, and an insulating jacket has a metal body with a rear opening for receiving the cable. A rear clamp nut threadingly engageable with the rear opening moves axially within the opening upon rotation to provide an axial force. A clamping ring and a stationary ring securely hold the outer conductor therebetween upon application of the axial force to the clamping ring. A cylindrical rigid member which has compressive material covering its inner surface, outer surface and one end surface and which is coaxial with the cable is disposed between the rear clamp nut and the clamp ring. As a result, when the rear clamp nut is rotated relative to the body, the cylindrical end surface cuts through the compressible material which is compressed by the axial force provided by the rear clamp nut to provide a seal between the rear opening and the cable. Thereafter, the cylinder applies the axial force to the clamping ring to thereby cause the coaxial cable outer conductor to be securely held by the clamping ring and the stationary ring.

Coaxial connector with gasketed sealing cylinder

A connector for joining ends of a pair of cables is disclosed. The connector includes first and second connector members each having a mating end with the mating end of the first connector member having an opening to receive the mating end of the second connector member. Means associated with the mating ends of the first and second connector members are provided for orienting the connector members for mating engagement. The orientation means permits the mating end of the first connector member to receive the mating end of the second connector member only in a preselected position of relative rotation. Means associated with the mating ends of the first and second connector members are also provided for securing the connector members in locked engagement. The orientation means provides an entryway leading to the securing means to permit locked engagement of the connector members with the securing means following mating engagement with the orientation means. The connector also includes resilient retaining means serving to resist forces tending to move the connector members out of locked engagement and providing an environmental seal. With these features of construction, the connector provides for self-alignment and positive locking in a low cost, light weight, weatherproof construction.

Coaxial cable connector

This invention relates to a coaxial connector having an injection molded dielectric. The preferred embodiment of the invention is an improved insulated-from-ground panel connector having a onepiece molded body of an insulating material. The molded body has a rear portion shaped to coact with a suitable element for mounting the connector (for example a screw thread) and a forward portion shaped to form the mating face dielectric for the connector. An inner contact of a conductive material passes through the center of and is molded into the body. The connector also has an outer contact over which a forward portion of the insulating body is molded. The outer contact extends over and beyond the mating face dielectric and has a conductive lead molded in, extending through, and projecting from the rear of the body.

Coaxial electrical connector

An electrical connector is provided in which one of the connecting members includes a mating section with a radial face of relatively soft metal disposed around an entry aperture and protected by a shroud member extending axially towards the other member to form an enlarged opening and internally having rotational coupling surfaces such as screw threads for coupling the members, the other other connecting member including a sleeve of harder metal housing at least one insulated contact hermetically mounted in a glass insert with the contact arranged to extend into the aperture of the one connecting member and an integral mating portion facing the second member with a radial flange formed by a circumferential undercut to be outwardly deflectable away from the radial face, the radial flange outwardly forming a deflectable beam section with radially inner and outer frontwardly converging surfaces and an axially extending cutting edge formed thereby, the sleeve outwardly including rotational coupling surfaces such as screw threads for rotational insertion into the shroud member aligning the cutting edge with the radial face while forcing the edge into the face in sealing penetration, the end of the sleeve opposite the cutting edge being adapted for connection to a conventional connector. In one embodiment, the radially inner surface is at an acute angle of about 30.degree. and is longer than the outer surface to form an inner area of pressure engagement when the beam section is deflected. In a second embodiment, the cutting edge and adjoining surfaces are on a second deflectable beam section formed by a groove in the first beam section to provide multiple deflecting members.
