A backing plate that removably attaches a sponge to a mop head includes a top surface, that removably attaches to the mop head, and a bottom surface, to which the sponge is attached. At least one male attachment member is located on the first edge of the top surface of the backing plate, for removable attachment to a corresponding female member on the mop head. At least one female attachment member is located on a second edge of the top surface of the backing plate, for removable attachment to a corresponding male member on the mop head. In the preferred embodiment, each male attachment member on the backing plate includes a lip and each female attachment member on the backing plate includes a C-shaped member.

A mop for cleaning a floor includes a handle. A mop head is attached to the distal end of the handle. A sponge having a floor contact surface is removably attached to the mop head. A squeegee, having a floor wiping surface, is formed integral with a front surface of the mop head. The mop also includes a mechanism for wringing the sponge, coupled to the mop head.

The invention features a floor mop that includes a mop handle and a mop head assembly attached to the handle. A sponge and wiper are positioned on the mop head assembly such that the handle is positioned at a first rearward-facing acute angle relative to the floor while a working surface of the sponge engages the floor. The sponge and wiper are also positioned such that the mop handle is positioned at a second rearward-facing acute angle relative to the floor while a working end of the wiper engages the floor.

A dustpan includes a pan with a lip at one edge of the perimeter of the pan floor and a wall surrounding the perimeter of the pan floor from one end of the lip to the other. A grip and a generally U-shaped footplate are attached to the pan opposite the lip. A member can be attached to the rear end of the grip and the footplate. The grip and the footplate can be separated by a void. Several of the dustpans can be nested. The footplate can be attached to points on the outer wall that are separated by a curve in the outer wall.
