The present invention provides substantially saturated, e.g., hydrogenated, phospholipid compounds, such as hydrogenated lecithin, which are useful as friction modifying agents for oleaginous compositions such as fuels, and lubricating oils, particularly automatic transmission fluids. The present invention also provides oleaginous compositions containing such phospholipid compounds, and processes for preparing the hydrogenated phospholipids, such as hydrogenated lecithin, and the compositions in which they are contained.

Hydrogenated lecithin for friction and flow properties

The present invention provides a novel cyclic phosphate such as 1,3-dioxa-2-phospha-6-thia-cyclooctane-2-(dodecylthiodi(ethyleneoxy)-2-oxi de, and its use as an anti-wear, anti-oxidant, and/or friction modifying agent for oleaginous compositions such as fuels, and lubricating oils particularly automatic transmission fluids. A new use of overbased metal phenates and/or sulfonates as friction stability promoters for conventional friction modifying agents is also provided.

Cyclic phosphate additives and their use in oleaginous compositions

Mineral oil based power transmitting fluids, such as automatic transmission fluids, are disclosed which contain 0.05 to 2.0 weight percent of an ester of a thio-bis alkanol and a C.sub.12 -C.sub.50 hydrocarbon succinic acid or anhydride, the ester being a multifunctional additive providing the properties of friction modification, corrosion inhibition, anti-wear, oxidation inhibition and extreme pressure properties to the fluids.

Power transmitting fluids containing esters of hydrocarbyl succinic acid

The present invention provides certain metal (e.g., Ca or Mg) ester salt derivatives capable of exhibiting friction modification, oxidation inhibition, and corrosion inhibition properties in power transmitting fluids such as automatic transmission fluids. These salts are derived from mono or diesters prepared by the reaction of an alkanol (e.g., thio-bis-ethanol) and a hydrocarbon substituted succinic acid or anhydride, such as octadecenyl succinic anhydride.

Metal salt esters of hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acid or anhydride

There are disclosed functional fluid compositions containing a two component friction modifier additive composed of a thio-bis-alkanol succinate ester and a phosphate diester such as dioleyl phosphite. The compositions are especially useful as tractor fluids.

Power transmission shift fluids containing two-component friction

There are disclosed improved additives for power shift transmission fluids being amine or ammonium salts of mercaptobenzothiazole dissolved in excess amine. The additives are useful as corrosion inhibitors, anti-oxidants and friction modifiers.

Additive for power transmission shift fluids

There are disclosed novel multifunctional additives for power transmission shift fluids such as automatic transmission fluids which are diethanolamides or diisopropanolamides of alkyl thioglycolic acids or boron, phosphorous or metal reaction products thereof. These additives provide the properties of anti-oxidation, H.sub.2 S suppression, corrosion inhibition and friction modification.

Multifunctional additives for functional fluids and lubricants

There are disclosed power shaft transmission fluids such as automatic transmission fluids containing a multifunctional anti-oxidant, anti-corrosion and friction modification additive being an oil soluble aliphatic succinate ester of alkoxylated mercaptan.

Multifunctional additive for power transmission shift fluids

There is disclosed an automatic transmission fluid containing an improved demulsifier additive being a combination of an acylated alkoxylated isopentylphenolic resin and a propoxylated-ethoxylated amylphenolic resin, the additive being effective at concentrations of 30 to 50 ppm.

Demulsifier composition for automatic transmission fluids

There are disclosed zinc and nickel salts of mono- or di- esters of C.sub.12 -C.sub.50 aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted succinic acids or anhydrides, such as octadecenyl succinic anhydride, with thio-bis-alkanols such as dithiodiethanol. The products are useful as antioxidants for lubricating oils and functional fluids, especially automatic transmission fluids.

Functional fluid containing metal salts of esters of hydrocarbyl

Oil-soluble spiro-[cycloalkane-oxazolidines], e.g. spiro-[cyclopentane-1,2-(4'-ethyl-4'-methylol)-oxazolidines-1', 3'] which are the reaction products of a cycloalkanone and an amino-propane monool or diol are additives which feature activity in functional fluids, e.g. mineral oil base automatic transmission fluids, as copper corrosion inhibitors and as chelating agents.

Oil-soluble spiro-[cycloalkane-oxazolidines], their preparation and use

Oil-soluble 4-alkyl mono or 5-alkyl bicyclic oxazolidines, e.g. 1-aza-3,7-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0] octanes which are the reaction products of an aldehyde and an amino propane monol or diol are additives which feature activity in functional fluids, e.g. mineral oil base automatic transmission fluids, as copper alloy corrosion inhibitors.
