Drilling communication systems employ a Wi-Fi wet connect to communicate information from one downhole subsystem to another. In some implementations, the subsystems are disposed within drilling callers making-up a bottom hole assembly (BHA). The Wi-Fi wet connect may communicate information obtained by a first downhole subsystem for storing or transmission by the second downhole subsystem.

A method includes coupling a strain gauge to a tubular member, and positioning the tubular member in the wellbore such that the tubular member is placed under bending stress by a curvature or deviation in the wellbore. The method also includes measuring bend on the tubular member with the strain gauge in at least one plane and determining one or more of the magnitude or orientation of the curvature of the wellbore based on an output of the strain gauge.

Drilling telemetry systems and methods include a cable antenna a cable antenna in an auxiliary borehole in a subterranean formation arranged to receive electromagnetic signal transmitted from an EM tool in an adjacent wellbore in the subterranean formation. The cable antenna may include a wireline cable having a center core, an insulated electrical cable head in direct electrical communication with the center core, and an uninsulated signal receiver in direct electrical communication with electrical cable head. The uninsulated signal receiver may have an outer surface formed of a conductive material and configured to contact a natural subterranean formation.
