A pinch valve for controlling fluid flow through flexible tubing is disclosed. The valve has a frame for accommodating flexible tubing and a tube-constricting arrangement, which arrangement includes a pair of arc sections on one side of the frame forming a throat or crimping channel transverse to the tube axis and a blade member extending correspondingly and transversely on the other side. An actuator reciprocally positions the blade member between an open and closed position. When the blade member is in the closed position, flexible tubing is crimped within the throat, preventing fluid flow therethrough. When the blade member is moved away from the tubing in an open position, the flexible tubing reverts to a relaxed condition and allows fluid flow therethrough. The pinch valve is utilizable with a bladder that provides a closed system and assists in throttling the flow of the fluid.

Pinch valve

A fastener system for fastening the components of a plastic unit which has a U-shaped clip with an aperture therethrough, a walled cavity to receive the clip, and a machine screw. The walled cavity is molded onto the host portion of the plastic unit and has a low mass, which precludes the formation of sink marks and holes on the plastic unit. The U-shaped clip rests upon the walled cavity and has barbs that bite into the walls securing the clip in place. The machine screw is inserted into a housing on the joined portion of the plastic unit and is mated with a lead thread on the aperture of the clip. The metal-to-metal contact of the machine screw and clip permits repetitive assembly and disassembly of the plastic unit. The clip is readily removable for recycling the plastic of the unit.

A pinch valve is provided which includes an outer housing into which lower and upper elements are positioned. A flexible, tubular shaped hose, duct, or similar conduit or line to be used under pressure is inserted into and maintained between a support section of the lower pinch element and a support section of the upper pinch element. A resilient spring located between the lower pinch element and the bottom surface of the outer housing compresses the flexible line into a closed position, in order to maintain an effective and leak proof closure of the line. When it is desired that the pressurized line be opened and fluid in the line be permitted to flow, an actuating button located atop the outer housing is pressed. The resulting pressure acts against the compressive force of this spring, causing the lower pinch element to move down within the housing, thereby opening the flexible line to permit fluid flow. When pressure is removed from the actuating button, the compressive force of the spring once again compels the lower pinch element upward, thereby closing the line.

To form an applicator, at least one container having an open bottom and a closed tubular portion is molded and the at least one tubular portion has a corresponding one of a tubular mandril containing an applicator component inserted into it for permitting the application of fluidic material from its tip. The mandril is removed while leaving the applicator component in position within the tubular portion of the applicator container. To utilize the applicator after filling it with its ingredients, the end of the tube is broken free. A plurality of containers are connected one to the other on a base having an open end with elongated tubular members extending from each of the plurality of containers sealed at its end. A dense bristle is used having Nylon bristles with a diameter of 2 mils.

A portable device is provided for dispensing fluid in a controlled manner, and, optionally, for mixing two or more fluid components prior to dispensing the resulting mixture. The device comprises a modified syringe provided with needle valve and associated cannula through which fluid is drawn into the syringe chamber and expelled therefrom in a controlled manner by appropriate movement of the piston. In a particular embodiment propellant gas is released behind the piston which, in sealing slidable engagement with the syringe cylinder, thereby exerts expelling pressure on the fluid in the cylinder chamber. The rate of expulsion of fluid from the chamber is regulated by adjustment of the needle valve. The device is especially adapted for mixing two or more liquid components of a periodontal composition and for controlled dispensing of the resulting composition at the locus to be treated.

Fluid dispenser

A compact case for sealingly supporting and enclosing a cosmetic preparation. A receptacle for the cosmetic preparation is mounted on a lower cover by means of a flexible annular member which permits relative movement between the receptacle and the lower cover in both axial and radial direction. The receptacle includes a platform and a first annular rim which projects from the platform. An upper cover hinged to a lower cover for movement between open and closed positions includes a second annular rim fittingly engageable with the first annular rim when the upper cover is moved to the closed position. The receptacle has a flexible annular member of 'V' or 'U' shaped cross section around it to permit movement of the receptacle in vertical and horizontal directions. This movement accommodates the mating closure rim and assures that an effective circumferential seal is always obtained between the annular rims. In some instances, the mating surfaces of the annular rims may be tapered, or one or the other of the rims may be hollowed out to form a 'V'-shaped cross section. The annular members may also be made of dissimilar materials.

Disclosed is a pencil sharpener adapted to sharpen pencils of a plurality of different sizes and to a method for making such a sharpener. The simplicity and convenience afforded by the sharpener enable the provision of an elegant outer appearance, especially suitable for cosmetic pencil use. The pencil sharpener (10) comprises a point cutting assembly (20) having a cylindrical pencil guide (21), a nestable first sleeve (30) having a smaller interior opening (32), and a second adaptor sleeve (40) having a yet smaller interior opening (42). The adaptor sleeves can be held by adaptor holding means comprising a projection (28) within the cuttings holder means (50) when not in use.

An integrally formed, one-piece, generally rectangular, plastic container particularly adapted for holding medicines is disclosed. The container includes a generally rectangular bottom section which is connected to a rectangular top section by means of an integrally formed, flexible, plastic hinge at the rear of the two sections. In the closed position, the top section overlies the bottom section and latch means lock the two sections together. The closed container requires that equal pressure be applied to the rear corners thereof in order to disengage the latch means. The container provides a substantially childproof safety closure for tableted medicines such as aspirin, laxatives, cold tablets, prescription drugs, etc.
