A number of improvements relating to methods and apparatuses for kidney dialysis are disclosed. These include a method providing an apparatus for dialyzing to a consumer, with the apparatus including a controller for controlling a dialysate parameter, a delivery system for delivering the dialysate to a dialysate compartment of a dialyzer, and a user/machine interface having a touch screen to display an indicium corresponding to a parameter pertinent to operation of the apparatus for use in dialysis and to enable a user though touching the indicium to effect a change in the parameter. The method also includes providing supplies that are useable with the apparatus to the consumer.

Methods for providing kidney dialysis equipment and services

A number of improvements relating to methods and apparatuses for kidney dialysis are disclosed. These include checking of dialysate bypass status using flow measurement; using a flow sensor to confirm the absence of ultrafiltration during bypass; automatic testing of ultrafiltration function by removal of a discrete volume from a portion of the dialysate flow path coupled with a pressure test of that part of the flow path; using a touch screen user interface; bar graph profile programming of ultrafiltration, sodium, and bicarbonate parameters; using a RAM card to upload treatment instructions to, and to download treatment data from, the machine; automatic setting of proportioning mode (acetate or bicarbonate) based on connections of concentrate lines; predicting dialysate conductivity values based on brand and formulation of concentrates; minimizing no-flow dead time between dialysate pulses; initiating operation in a timed mode from a machine power-off condition; preserving machine mode during machine power-fail condition; calibration scheduling and reminding; automatic level adjusting; and blood leak flow rate detecting.

Methods are disclosed for providing certain operational instructions to a hemodialysis machine. The hemodialysis machine possesses a programmable memory and a capability of operating according to a time-varying parameter such as variable ultrafiltration. According to the methods, the machine operator enters into the memory a desired time period, a target cumulative value of the time-varying parameter, such as target UF volume, and a proposed time-varying profile of the time-varying parameter that is representable as a plot of coordinates in a region defined by an ordinate of values of the parameter and a time-based abscissa, wherein the plot defines a profile cumulative value of the parameter. If the profile cumulative value is not equal to the target cumulative value, then the proposed time-varying profile is changed along the ordinate so that the profile cumulative value is made equal to the target cumulative value. The machine then operates according to the changed profile to enable the apparatus to achieve, while operating, the entered target cumulative value within the time period.

A plug assembly is provided including an elongated sleeve defining a longitudinal bore therethrough and including structure thereon for at least semi-permanent sealed securement through the drain bore of an oil pan. The plug assembly further includes a plug member defining an enlarged head and an elongated shank projecting lengthwise outwardly from one side of the head and removably telescopingly receivable in the longitudinal bore through the sleeve. Seal structure is carried by the shank and establishes a slidable fluid tight seal between the shank and the adjacent surfaces of the sleeve bore. The head of the plug member and the adjacent end of the sleeve include coacting structure releasably securing the plug member against outward displacement relative to the sleeve end and thus lengthwise retraction of the shank and the seal structure from the sleeve bore.

Replacement oil pan plug

Fittings are provided for use as replacements in a carburetor that has stripped the threads in the casting. The fittings include a self-adjusting filter screen, a cone nut, a fitting body, and a seal member. In a modified form of the invention, there is provided a method of sealing that does not use the screen.
