A video stream of live medical images is generated at a local site having a medical image scanner. A live video stream is transmitted to at least one remote site via a network, which may include wired or wireless Internet connections. Network conditions are monitored during a network session and predictions are made on a predicted bit rate for transmission. The compression parameters for the live video stream are selected based on the predicted bit rate.

Dynamic adjustment of image compression for high resolution live medical image sharing

Techniques to improve resolution in an ultrasound system are disclosed. An exemplary apparatus is a portable ultrasound probe having transducer elements and supporting electronics within the probe. The beam is shaped to split the resolution to sub-pixel accuracy. Super resolution sample technique based on interpolation can be used to further increase resolution. In one embodiment the ultrasound system supports &#xbd; crystal physical resolution and &#xbc; crystal digital resolution.

A variety of methods and arrangements for sharing medical data are described. In one aspect, one or more data streams are received from one or more medical imaging/sensing or other types of devices. Frames are obtained from the streams. In some embodiments, particular frames and/or parts of frames are selectively encrypted. The frames are transmitted to a remote device, where they are rendered and/or displayed at the remote device. In various embodiments, the frames of different streams are synchronized.

A method for determining a peak value of a histogram or a sequence of sampled data is disclosed. The method may include fitting a curve to the sequence of data, the curve being modeled based on an orthonormal expansion; obtaining a differential curve, the differential curve describing changes in slope of the curve fitted to the sequence of data; finding at least one root for the differential curve; for each of the at least one root for the differential curve, calculating a corresponding value on the curve fitted to the sequence of data; and determining the peak value of the sequence of data based on a maximum value among the corresponding value calculated for each of the at least one root.

Computer-implemented methods, computer-readable media, and systems for identifying one or more optical modes of an inspection system as candidates for use in inspection of a layer of a wafer are provided. One method includes determining one or more characteristics of images of the layer of the wafer acquired using the inspection system and different optical modes available on the inspection system. The method also includes identifying a first portion of the different optical modes as not candidates for use in the inspection of the layer of the wafer based on the one or more characteristics of the images. In addition, the method includes generating output by eliminating the first portion of the different optical modes from the different optical modes at which the images were acquired such that the output includes a second portion of the different optical modes indicated as the candidates for use in the inspection.
