The present invention relates to a pregnancy monitoring system () and to a method for detecting medical condition information from a pregnant subject of interest (). The system () comprises a fetal monitoring transducer () that detects fetal medical condition information, a first motion sensor unit () associated with the fetal monitoring transducer (), the first motion sensor unit () comprising at least one first motion sensor (), a second motion sensor unit () comprising at least one second motion sensor (), and a control device () comprising an evaluation unit () that determines relative motion between the first motion sensor unit () and the second motion sensor unit (), wherein the control device () selectively permits, in an enablement mode, processing of the detected fetal medical condition information when a level of relative motion between the first motion sensor unit () and the second motion sensor unit () indicates stable measurement conditions, and wherein the control device () selectively prevents, in a suppression mode, processing of the detected fetal medical condition information when the level of relative motion between the first motion sensor unit () and the second motion sensor unit () indicates unstable measurement conditions.

Pregnancy monitoring system and method

A heart rate monitor () for detecting a pulse of a person () employs a platform (), a plurality of multi-axis accelerometers (R,L) and a pulse detector (). The multi-axis accelerometers (R,L) are adjoined to the platform () to generate differential mode signals (A, A) indicative of a sensing by the accelerometers () of physiological motion () of the person () relative to acceleration sensing axes (R,L) and to generate common mode signals (A, A, A, A) indicative of a sensing by the accelerometers (R,L) of extraneous motion by the person () relative to the acceleration sensing axes (R,L). The pulse detector () is operably connected to the multi-axis accelerometers (R,L) to generate a pulse signal (PS)as a function of a vertical alignment of the acceleration sensing axes (R,L) combining the differential mode signals (A, A) and cancelling the common mode signals (A, A, A, A).

Opposing accelerometers for a heart rate monitor

A method and associated apparatus () detects the presence and quality of chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by analyzing existing signals in automated external defibrillator (AED) devices without using a stand-alone CPR meter. The method includes analyzing both a thoracic impedance signal and a common-mode current signal, each of which can be measured with standard AED pads (). The method applies criteria to the measured signals, the criteria being used to select which of the measured signals to use for providing CPR chest compression detections.

Method and apparatus for detecting a status of CPR chest compressions without using a stand-alone compression meter

A respiratory monitor comprises: a first sensor () configured to generate a respiration-related motion monitoring signal () indicative of respiration related motion; a second sensor () configured to generate a sound monitoring signal () indicative of respiration-related sound; and a signals synthesizer () configured to synthesize a respiratory monitor signal () based on the respiration-related motion monitoring signal and the respiration-related sound monitoring signal. A sensor for use in respiratory monitoring comprises an accelerometer () and a magnetometer () together defining a unitary sensor () configured for attachment to a respiring subject () so as to move as a unit responsive to respiration related motion of the respiring subject.

Respiratory monitors and monitoring methods

A method of calibrating a monitoring device to be attached to a user is provided. Prior to attachment of the device, the device is aligned with respect to the user such that the measurement reference frame of the device is substantially aligned with a reference frame of the user. A first measurement of the orientation of the device with respect to a world reference frame is obtained. After attachment of the device, a second measurement of the orientation of the device with respect to a world reference frame is obtained. A transformation matrix is determined for use in transforming subsequent measurements obtained by the device into the reference frame of the user. The matrix is calculated using the first and second measurements and information on the amount of rotation of the device relative to the user about a vertical axis in the world reference frame between the first and second measurements being taken.

Device for monitoring a user and a method for calibrating the device

In a multi-sensor system and method of monitoring vital body signals during movement of a body of a human or an animal, acceleration sensors are placed at body locations in such a way that an acceleration angle change induced by the vital body signals differs between the at least two acceleration sensors. The retrieval of the vital body signals is achieved by extracting a wanted vital body signal based on measurement results from multiple sensors that may be motion contaminated. Three retrieval schemes are proposed, each with preferred sensor locations that provide optimal performance of retrieving the vital body signal(s).

Monitoring of vital body signals during movement

The invention relates to a motion determination apparatus for determining motion of a moving object, wherein the motion determination apparatus () comprises a multi-axial accelerometer () for being positioned at the moving object (), wherein the multi-axial accelerometer () is adapted to generate accelerometer signals indicative of the acceleration along different spatial axes. The motion determination apparatus further comprises a motion signal generation unit () for generating a motion signal indicative of the motion of the object () by combining the accelerometer signals of different spatial axes. The combination of the accelerometer signals of different spatial axes yields a motion signal having a large signal-to-noise ratio, even if an axis is located close to a rotational axis of the movement.

Motion determination apparatus

In an embodiment, an oxygen sensor comprises a giant magnetoresistance device (), and a magnetic field generator () arranged to generate a magnetic field () overlapping the giant magnetoresistance device and an examination region (). A component (B) of the magnetic field detected by the giant magnetoresistance device is dependent upon an oxygen concentration in the examination region. In an embodiment, a chip () includes one or more electrically conductive traces () disposed on or in the chip and a giant magnetoresistance device () disposed on or in the chip such that electrical current flowing in the trace or traces generates a magnetic field () that overlaps the magnetic field sensor, said magnetic field being perturbed (B) by ambient oxygen () such that a signal output by the magnetic field sensor indicates ambient oxygen concentration.

Oxygen concentration measurement with GMR

An electronic device has an orientation sensing system for determining an orientation of the device. The system includes a magnetometer and an accelerometer. The system further has a calibration device configured to calibrate the sensing system for operational use. The accelerometer supplies measurements used to constrain a range of possible directions of the external magnetic field to be determined. The calibration device numerically solves a set of equations and is equally usable for a 2D or 3D magnetometer in combination with a 2D or 3D accelerometer.

Auto-calibration of orientation sensing systems

Compensation coil functionality and flip coil functionality are combined into a single combination coil that is placed under an angle &#x3b1; with respect to the length direction of a magneto-resistive sensor element. The angle &#x3b1; substantially deviates from 0&#xb0; and 90&#xb0;. This configuration enables to reduce the width of the current line of the planar combination coil, to reduce the effective threshold for sensor element switching, and to include features to simplify a 2D sensor design.

A magnetic field sensor circuit comprises a first magneto-resistive sensor (Rx) which senses a first magnetic field component in a first direction to supply a first sense signal (Vx). A first flipping coil (FC) applies a first flipping magnetic field with a periodically changing polarity to the first magneto-resistive sensor (Rx) to cause the first sense signal (Vx) to have alternating different levels synchronized with the first flipping magnetic field. A second magneto -resistive sensor (Ry) senses a second magnetic field component in a second direction different than the first direction to supply a second sense signal (Vy). A second flipping coil (FC) applies a second flipping magnetic field with a periodically changing polarity to the second magneto -resistive sensor (Ry) to cause the second sense signal (Vy) to have an alternating different levels synchronized with the second flipping magnetic field. The first flipping magnetic field and the second flipping magnetic field have a phase shift. A differential amplifier (AMP) receives the first sense signal (Vx) and the second sense signal (Vy) to obtain a difference signal (Vd). A first synchronous demodulator (DEM) receives the difference signal (Vd) and a first switching signal (Q) being phase locked to the alternating different levels of the first sense signal (Vx) to supply a first output signal (Vox) indicating the first magnetic field component. A second synchronous demodulator (DEM) receives the difference signal (Vd) and a second switching signal (Q) being phase locked to the alternating different levels of the second sense signal (Vy) to supply a second output signal (Voy) indicating the second magnetic field component.
