An electronic device can receive battery charge level information from two different devices and select, between the different devices, which information to use to generate and present battery information on a display of the electronic device. When two separate devices are transmitted by a case and an earbud (or earbuds), the electronic device can receive and select from one of two source based upon the state of the case and the state of the earbud(s). Alternatively, based upon the state of the case and the earbud(s), the electronic device can merge the information received from the case and the earbuds, while also determining from the merged information which respective device transmitted the respective information. Further, the case can provide battery information on behalf of the earbuds when the earbuds are in the case, and the respective radio circuits are shut down. Alternatively, the earbuds can provide battery information on behalf the case.

Cases and earbuds for providing information and electronic devices for receiving information

Aspects disclosed in the detailed description include power saving techniques in computing devices. In particular, as data is received by a modem processor in a computing device, the data is held until the expiration of a modem timer. The data is then passed to an application processor in the computing device over a peripheral component interconnect express (PCIe) interconnectivity bus. On receipt of the data from the modem processor, the application processor sends data held by the application processor to the modem processor over the PCIe interconnectivity bus. The application processor also has an uplink timer. If no data is received from the modem processor before expiration of the uplink timer, the application processor sends any collected data to the modem processor at expiration of the uplink timer. However, if data is received from the modem processor, the uplink timer is reset.

A method performed by a controller of a PCIe interface includes determining that a burst of data is being transmitted on a PCIe link, configuring a timer to signal when an entry latency period has elapsed after determining that a PCIe link has entered an idle state, causing one or more circuits of the PCIe interface to enter a low-power state when the timer signals that the entry latency period has elapsed before the PCIe link becomes active, and increasing the entry latency period when a number of entries of the PCIe interface to the low-power state that occurs during transmission of the burst of data exceeds a threshold maximum number.

This disclosure relates to techniques for managing mobile-terminating short message service re-transmissions for wireless devices. A cellular network entity of a cellular network may receive a request to provide a short message service message to a wireless device. The wireless device may be registered with the cellular network entity via at least two access types. An attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via a first access type may be performed. An attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via a second access type may be performed if the attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via the first access type is unsuccessful.

Mobile terminating short message service re-transmission management

This disclosure relates to providing coexistence features for cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum. A wireless device may communicate with a cellular base station in accordance with an original communication configuration. The wireless device may determine that a communication activity is occurring at the wireless device that has a duration longer than a duration threshold. The wireless device may provide an indication to the cellular base station to modify the communication configuration with respect to operation in an unlicensed frequency band based at least in part on determining that a communication activity is occurring at the wireless device that has a duration longer than the duration threshold. The wireless device may communicate with the cellular base station in accordance with a modified communication configuration.

Access type selection in a 5G network

Methods and apparatus are provided for avoiding attempts by a UE to attach to a RAT network when that RAT network is unavailable. According to certain aspects, the UE may detect scenarios when the RAT network is unavailable and take preemptive action to prevent the UE from attempting to acquire service on that RAT. For example, the UE may effectively remove that RAT from a list of supported RATs by sending a UE capability message indicating that RAT is not supported, which may prevent network-initiated transitions of the UE to that RAT. The UE may also remove the unavailable RAT from an internal list of supported RATs, which may prevent UE-initiated transitions to that RAT.

Methods and systems for avoiding transitions between radio access technologies when packet data networks are inaccessible

Techniques are described for wireless communication at a wireless communication device. One method includes receiving wireless wide area network (WWAN) packets at a WWAN processing subsystem of the wireless communication device; transferring wireless local area network (WLAN) packet information from a WLAN processing subsystem of the wireless communication device to the WWAN processing subsystem, the WLAN packet information comprising a subset of data associated with WLAN packets; performing a reordering process in the WWAN processing subsystem, the reordering process based at least in part on the received WWAN packets and the WLAN packets that correspond to the transferred WLAN packet information; and providing an indication of the reordered WWAN packets and the WLAN packets to an application processing subsystem of the wireless communication device.

Techniques for optimizing wireless wide area network-wireless local area network aggregation

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to smart processing of wireless wide area network (WWAN) packets transmitted over wireless local area network (WLAN). According to certain aspects, a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) capable of communicating via at least first and second radio access technologies (RATs) is provided. The method generally includes dynamically switching to a location, within the UE, as an anchor point for processing packets based, at least in part, on operating states of the first and second RATs and routing packets received via at least one of the first and second RATs to the dynamically switched location of the anchor point.

Smart processing of WWAN packets transmitted over WLAN

Methods, systems, and devices are described for managing broadcasts of data in wireless communications. A request to join a multicast session is received. A plurality of broadcast technology based identifiers associated with the multicast session are received. Each broadcast technology based identifier identifies one of a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) broadcasting the multicast session. One of the plurality of RATs is selected. A multicast stream of data associated with the multicast session is received from the selected RAT.
