A wireless network includes a client device and an access point (AP). The client device generates a data packet having a physical layer protocol data unit frame format. The client device transmits the data packet to the AP such that a plurality of long training fields (LTFs) of the data packet is transmitted at higher power as compared to a data field of the data packet, and a preamble portion of the data packet is transmitted at higher power as compared to the plurality of LTFs. Further, the data field includes various resource units (RUs) and one such RU is utilized for data transmission between the client device and the AP. The transmission of the data packet from the client device to the AP in the aforementioned manner results in the range extension of the wireless network.

A method for controlling communication of information includes selecting a group of stations within range of an access point, transmitting a first signal from the access point to a first station in the group, and receiving at the access point a second signal from a second station in the group. The first signal is transmitted to the first station through a downlink channel. The second signal is received from the second station through an uplink channel. Embodiments described herein provide a system for transmitting high efficiency long term training field (HE-LTF) symbols for multiple wireless spatial streams over a wireless channel. An advanced P-matrix design is used to construct HE-LTF symbols that are processed by a receiver such that channel properties such as channel estimates or carrier phase error are determined prior to receiving all HE-LTF symbols. Tone multiplexing of wireless spatial stream is also used to transmit multiple spatial streams based on an assignment of sets of spatial streams to sets of tones available for transmission, increasing the throughput of the transmission system. The advanced P-matrix design and tone multiplexing are used in combination to achieve calculate channel properties before receiving all HE-LTF symbols while minimizing power fluctuation among the high efficiency short training field symbol and the HE-LTF symbols.

Data from a communications channel is decoded by receiving data bits corresponding to encoded data, determining a set of data representations from the data bits, distributing the set of data representations into bins across a dynamic range to generate a distribution of the data representations, assigning a respective intermediate scale factor to each bin, deriving a set of moments from the intermediate scale factors, combining the moments into a scaling factor, scaling the data representations by the scaling factor, and sending the scaled data representations to a decoder. The data representations may be a histogram or cumulative distribution function of log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) or values based on channel estimates. In an iterative implementation performed until a stopping condition is met, the data representations may be scaled down on later iterations to avoid saturation. A correction factor may be applied to update the scaling factor for later data bits.
