This disclosure details systems and methods for supporting and isolating vehicle body mounted battery packs from various vehicle loads. An exemplary electrified vehicle may include a frame, a battery support structure mounted to the frame, a battery pack, and one or more isolators. The battery pack is supported by the battery support structure but is not mechanically coupled to the frame. The isolator is mounted between the battery pack and the battery pack support structure for isolating the battery pack from loads that may be imparted on the frame and/or the battery support structure.

A battery pack support assembly includes a plurality of isolators disposed between an outer support frame of a battery pack and longitudinal rails of a vehicle frame. Each isolator includes a housing, an elastic body and a fastener. The housing defines a central opening and opposed flanges. The opposed flanges are secured to a respective longitudinal rail. The elastic body is disposed within the central opening of the housing. The fastener extends laterally through the central opening of the housing and secures the elastic body to the outer support frame of the battery pack.

This disclosure relates to a battery assembly with a plate having a compression limiting feature, and a corresponding electrified vehicle and method. An example battery assembly includes a wall having an inner surface and an outer surface. The wall also has a central opening. The battery assembly further includes a plate abutting the outer surface of the wall and covering the central opening. The plate also includes a main body and a post projecting from the main body toward the inner surface of the wall. Among other benefits, this arrangement limits compression of the wall and increases the ease of mounting components, such as electrical or fluid connectors, to the battery assembly.

This disclosure details electrified vehicles that are equipped with one or more attachment and sealing assemblies for securing a battery pack to vehicle body components. An exemplary attachment and sealing assembly may establish a mid-span attachment point of the battery pack. The attachment and sealing assembly may include an attachment column and a sealing ring that cooperate to secure the battery pack to the vehicle and to seal openings formed through the battery pack and the vehicle body component.

This disclosure details electrified vehicles that are equipped with one or more attachment and sealing assemblies for securing a battery pack to the vehicle. An exemplary attachment and sealing assembly may establish a mid-span attachment point of the battery pack and may include a pass-through component, a fastener, and a seal. The fastener may be positioned relative to the pass-through component using either a bottom-up or top-down approach. The seal may radially seal between a portion of a battery pack enclosure assembly and the pass-through component.

A battery pack according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, an enclosure and a battery assembly retained relative to the enclosure. An exemplary busbar forming method includes, among other things, creasing a sheet of material to form a plurality of creases that partition the sheet into a plurality of segments. The method further includes identifying a desired size for a terminal receiving recess in a busbar. In response to the desired size, the method folds at least some of the segments relative to each other about at least some of the creases according to a first process, or a different, second process. An exemplary battery assembly includes, among other things, a busbar formed from a sheet of material. The busbar has a terminal receiving recess. Creases are formed within the sheet that partition at least a portion of the sheet into a plurality of segments. Some of the segments are folded relative to each other about at least some of the creases to provide the terminal receiving recess in the busbar.

An exemplary method includes, among other things, providing first and second blanks that are nominally identical and that include an array of raised features. The method further includes removing a first combination of individual raised features from the first blank to provide a first battery component with a first flow path, and removing a different, second combination of individual raised features from the second blank to provide a second battery component with a different, second flow path. An exemplary battery assembly includes, among other things, a blank having a plurality of ribs extending from a floor. The blank is configured such that a first combination of the ribs are removable from the blank to provide a first battery component having first flow path, and a different, second combination of the ribs are removable from the blank to provide a second battery component having a different, second flow path.

A hybrid energy storage and delivery device includes a plastic enclosure that establishes a first sealed chamber and a second sealed chamber. The first sealed chamber is configured as a fuel tank for storing a liquid fuel and the second sealed chamber is configured as a battery pack for storing electrical energy. Thus, the fuel tank and battery pack may be integrated together within a single enclosure in order to improve vehicle packaging efficiencies.

An exemplary support assembly includes, among other things, a hoop bracket coupling a battery pack to a vehicle body structure, and a tuned bracket within an open area of the hoop bracket. The tuned bracket is configured to control a collapse of the hoop bracket in response to a load above a threshold level to reduce a transfer of the load to the battery pack. An exemplary supporting method includes coupling a battery pack to a vehicle body structure using a hoop bracket disposed alongside the battery pack. The hoop bracket includes an open area that receives a tuned bracket. The tuned bracket is configured to control a deformation of the hoop bracket in response to a load above a threshold level to reduce a transfer of the load to the battery pack.

A battery pack includes a first side oriented battery assembly, a second side oriented battery assembly, and a vent chamber arranged between the first side oriented battery assembly and the second side oriented battery assembly. The first and second side oriented battery assemblies are thus arranged to share a common vent chamber. One of the first and second side oriented battery assemblies may additionally share a common heat exchanger device with a third side oriented battery assembly.

A hybrid electric vehicle having one or more controllers, at least two axles independently driven by respective electric machines (EMs) that are each coupled to a separate battery, and a combustion engine (CE) coupled to one of the axles. At least one of the controller(s) are configured to deliver power to one of the axles in a single axle drive mode, and in response to a torque demand signal (TDS) exceeding a single axle power limit, to deliver power to another axle, and/or all axles. The controller(s) are further configured to respond to the TDS exceeding a multiple axle power limit, and to deliver additional CE power to the coupled axle. In response to a braking signal, the controller(s) may also adjust at least one of the EMs to capture mechanical braking energy from a respective axle, and generate negative torque to charge one or more of the separate batteries.
