The present invention is directed to complexes comprising an isolated MHC subunit component, an antigenic peptide and, in some cases, an effector component. The antigenic peptide is associated with the antigen binding site of the MHC subunit component. These complexes are useful in treating autoimmune disease.

Enzyme or substrate determinations can be achieved by employing an organic second substrate, which produces a product which may be coupled with a metal inorganic redox couple capable of interacting with and affecting the potential of a metal electrode on a semiconductor surface. Particularly, hydrogen peroxide or indoxyl phosphate are coupled with iron- or ruthenium-containing ionic redox couples for determination with a noble metal electrode.

Methods and apparatus for detecting the effect of cell affecting agents

Processes for increasing antigen binding capacity of a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule or a chain thereof are described. Such processes comprise treating an antigen-bound MHC molecule or a chain thereof with an effective amount of an unfolding agent to release undesired antigen from the MHC molecule or chain and then treating the antigen-free MHC molecule or chain with an effective amount of a refolding agent to produce a functional MHC molecule or chain. Additionally, compositions of MHC molecules that are substantially free of undesired antigens or that have been bound with desired specific antigens, alone or in combination with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers and/or cytotoxic agents, are described. The present invention has utility for therapeutic administrations, drug screening, and diagnostics.

Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules

Methods are disclosed for detecting the effects of cell affecting agents on living cells. The method steps include providing living cells that are retained in a micro flow chamber. The micro flow chamber is adapted for either continuous or intermittent flow of solutions or suspensions in intimate contact with the cells. The solutions or suspensions, which contain a cell affecting agent, are then flowed in intimate contact with the cells and at least one effect of the cell affecting agent on the cells is measured by an appropriate detecting means, which is operatively associated with the micro flow chamber.

Methods for detecting the effect of cell affecting agents on living cells

Apparatus and methods are provided for multiple detection of analytes employing semiconductor capacitance as the signal modulated by the analyte. Photoresponsive redox detection and discrimination

An apparatus for determining a characteristic of a signal modulating component related to an analyte of interest at an assay site by measuring light modulated by the component. A light source uniformly illuminates the assay site and a reference site. The light is directed from the sites onto a group of memory cells on the surface of a random access memory. The memory cells will decay from a logical 1 to a logical 0 due to the light over a period of time which is a function of the intensity of the light and the reference voltage of the memory cells marking the difference between a 1 and a 0. The digital state of each of the memory cells in the group is measured a predetermined exposure time. The measured states of a group of memory cells corresponding to the assay site are compared to the memory cell states for a reference group. The measured states are then analyzed to determine a characteristic of the analyte.
