An armrest assembly for a chair which can be adjusted in multiple aspects with the use of single actuating mechanism. The adjustment aspects of the preferred embodiment include a vertical adjustment with respect to the chair and a horizontal rotational adjustment. Such an armrest assembly can include an armrest base securable to a chair and having a tubular portion, a hollow armrest support slideably and rotationally disposed about the tubular portion and an armpad attached to the top of the hollow armrest support. A handle to disengage the actuating mechanism is provided.

A chair comprises a seat; a support for the seat; and, a plurality of biasing members mounted between the support and the seat, the biasing members, in combination, have a compressive strength sufficiently high to essentially resist static movement of a person while seated in the chair and sufficiently low to cushion dynamic loads applied to the seat when a person sits down quickly in the chair. Alternately the chair comprises a plurality of connecting members extending between the seat and the support, each connecting member having at least one first detent member to lockingly connecting the seat to the support.

Seat mounting mechanism

A chair back is provided with an adjustable lumbar support member. The vertical height of the lumbar support member and/or the amount of lumbar support which is provided by the chair back may be adjusted. The controls for adjusting the lumbar support member are positionable on the sides and the rear surface of the chair back.

Lumbar support adjustment mechanism

A chair back comprises a rear surface, a front surface spaced from the rear surface and a side extending between the front and rear surfaces; a lumbar support member positioned between the front and rear surfaces and mounted for vertical movement with respect to the chair back and for forward movement with respect to the front surface; a first control member positioned on the rear surface of the chair back for adjusting the forward movement of the lumbar support member; and, a second control member positioned adjacent one of the sides of the chair back for adjusting the vertical height of the lumbar support member.

A chair comprises a longitudinally extending seat; a support member for supporting the seat at an elevated height; a slide member fixedly mounted to one of the seat and the support member; a housing positioned between the seat and the support member and fixedly mounted to the other of the seat and the support member, the housing having a cavity for slidably receiving the slide member, the slide member mounted for longitudinal movement forward and rearward with respect to the housing; and, an adjustment member mounted in the housing and drivingly connected to the slide member, whereby movement of the adjustment member in a first direction causes the seat to move forwardly and movement of the adjustment member in the opposite direction causes the seat to move rearwardly.
