Vibrations generated by the wheel units of a vehicle are reduced by a low pulsating operation that optimally simulates actual vehicle operating conditions. For this purpose the mass moment of inertia of the wheel unit and of rotating components such as the hub and the brake disc are taken into account. The wheel unit is rotatably mounted on a balancing spindle ( ) in a measuring apparatus to determine the mass and angular location of balancing weights ( ). The vibrations are measured at a speed that corresponds to a typical travel speed of a vehicle. A loading mechanism including a roller shoe ( ) applies a force to the tire tread surface through a spring damping ( ) to optimally simulate the conditions of a roadway. The roller shoe ( ) has rollers ( ) with sections of larger and smaller diameters so that neighboring rollers intermesh. The combined masses of the rollers, as reduced to the roller radius d , corresponds to the rotational mass of the vehicle wheel as reduced to the tread radius (d ). It is also possible to disengage the contact force from the tread surface for dynamically balancing the wheel unit under load-free conditions. Thus, wheel-balancing steps under loaded and load free conditions can be done on one machine.

Method and apparatus for reducing vibrations transmitted to a vehicle from a wheel unit

Method and apparatus for taking into account position inaccuracies of attachment surfaces for later attachment of components, that possess mass on a rotor, such as a crankshaft with crankpins, during balancing of the rotor. The attachment surfaces such as crankpins function as sites for the later assembly of components that possess mass. Differences between the ideal and actual positions of each attachment surface are determined and are taken into account during the balancing procedure.

Method and apparatus for balancing rotors

A switch is provided for ending the shifting movement of a crankshaft when the balance thereof is being adjusted in a machine for balance centering. The machine for balance centering is provided with a bearing bed below a swing bridge supported by means of springs, in which machine the crankshaft to be balance centered rotates around the axis of the machine. The axis of the crankshaft can be displaced in relation to the axis of the machine until a minimal rotation radius has been obtained for a point on the surface of two selected crankshaft sections rotating around the axis of the machine without eccentricities due to the system.

A method and apparatus for deriving mean value signals is disclosed, wherein input signals are compared with signals stored in a first storage device to produce difference signals. These difference signals are added to the signals stored in the first storage device, to produce corrected means value signals, which are in turn stored in a second storage device. The output of the second storage device is transferred to the first storage device, to update the mean value stored in the first storage device.
